A Look Back and Ahead at Professional Learning at RBHS

Week 35 - Professional Learning 3Es

We have concluded some amazing weeks of professional learning at River Bluff. We would like to thank each teacher for their commitment to a growth mindset and being life long learners. Our professional learning plan for next year will include strands of learning for expeditions, case studies and supporting students in their use of learning targets.

Gators of the Week - Work hard. Get smart. Do good.

Gators of the Week: Orchestra Students Shine at SCMEA

Work hard. This weekend RBHS had many orchestra students participate in our state's SCMEA Solo and Ensemble Festival. We had a record number of entries, the most of any school in our region, and RBHS students brought home numerous awards. This year the number of award recipients is too great to name each individually, but we wanted to share our total numbers with you.

This weekend RBHS Orchestra students were awarded 49 Superior Ratings (the highest possible) and 15 Excellent ratings. This is an unprecedented number for this event, and there were so many Superior ratings from RB that the event actually ran out of medals. We also had several students earn perfect scores from the judges.

Gators of the Week: ACT and Workkeys Assessment this Week

Get Smart: Beginning Tuesday all third year high students at River Bluff will take the ACT and Workkeys assessment. This rigorous test will provide college and career readiness information to assist our students in preparing for their futures. Tuesday students will take the ACT in their CREWs beginning first thing in the morning and Wednesday students will take the Workkeys Assessment.

All the best to the test takers.

Gators of the Week: 2015 Prom was a Huge Success

Do good. Thank you to Ms. Cunningham and her team of planners and decorators for creating an amazing Night in New York on Saturday night. Thank you to all students for your amazing behavior and to our teacher volunteers who chaperoned our event. Just another example of our student body doing good as we danced the night away.

EL Design Principle in Action

The Responsibility for Learning

Learning is both a personal process of discovery and a social activity. Everyone learns both individually and as part of a group. Every aspect of an Expeditionary Learning school encourages both children and adults to become increasingly responsible for directing their own personal and collective learning.

This week will allow for many students the opportunity to show mastery of two standardized tests Workkeys and the ACT. On Tuesday and Wednesday, all third year high school students will take these tests. Each student testing will be expected to show grit and endurance in taking these tests. Thank you ahead of time for your diligence in testing and preparing to do your best. Students not testing will have planned academic events to experience while the testing experience takes place.
