Mrs. Stevenson's Message
Dear Parents,
We have had such an amazing 9 weeks of school. The teachers and students have spent a lot of time preparing for conferences. At conferences you will have the opportunity to meet with your child's teachers to set goals, to review their progress towards these goals, and to agree about how we can all best support the learning at home and at school. Conferences are a great tool for our teachers to get to know their students and their families better. The connections teachers, students, and parents make at these meetings lead to better communication and, most important, a partnership!
Please consider attending our Tuesday, October 3rd PTO meeting starting at 6:00 pm in the media center. Our guest will be SC Robotics Team and sponsor.
Enjoy your Fall Break! Toni Stevenson, Principal

Bear Creek Fundraiser by Lily Harbert
I was wondering, why did we dress up like cowboys/cowgirls a few weeks ago? “ Well, that's because we were trying to raise money for Bear Creek Elementary.”says 7 year-old Violet Harbert. “Bear Creek was flooded by hurricane Harvey in Texas. Along with a big town that surrounded Bear Creek.” says 7 year-old Danica Chandler. Thats right Gators! We were raising money for Bear Creek by, wearing cowboy/cowgirl costumes for $1.00 or more! So that settles it, we dressed up like cowboys/cowgirls to raise money to help Bear Creek Elementary because of the flood.
No Tricks Just Treats by Kennedy
Gators, are you going to the high school for no trick just treat? Well if you are or are not, I got some info from my brother about what is happening at the high school on this event . The info is that there will be a tractor for hay rides and food to eat, but bring more than one bag because there is a lot of candy and booths from high school clubs. Don’t forget to greet them if they say hi. You should be nice to the high schoolers because they could be home, but they are letting you come to their school to trick or treat there. Besides, they would like to see your outfits, there. If you have sibling there you should go! it will be awesome and there will be fun things! I am excited to see you gators there and your awesome costumes there. Before you leave I would like to say have a great Halloween!

Getting to Know Mr. Arnold by Erin Barnes
Hi Gators! I thought it would be great to interview one of the new teachers here at South Creek, and decided our new P.E teacher, Mr. Arnold, would be a good choice, since everyone has him for a teacher.
I know you are new to South Creek. What do you think of the school so far? I think that South Creek is a great school. I am very happy to be here and have enjoyed all of the very helpful staff and positive students.
What did you do for work before you came to South Creek? Before I came to South Creek I was a PE teacher at another elementary school called, Irvington Community Elementary School.
What job did you dream of when you were an elementary student? When I was an elementary student I wanted to be the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, if my NBA career didn't work out.
What are some things you enjoy when you are not at work. When I am not at work I enjoy coaching basketball over at FCHS, hanging out with my son, and pretty much anything that involves being outside.
What games did you enjoy playing as a kid? As a kid I enjoyed playing flashlight tag, capture the flag, football, basketball, baseball, and swimming at my neighbor's pool.
What is your favorite sport and team or player? I enjoy all sports, but my favorite are college basketball and football. My favorite teams are Duke (basketball) and Notre Dame (football).
If you were the president of the United States, what is something you would change? If I was President of the United States, I would change the speed limit on Interstate 465 from 55mph to 70mph.
Thank you, Mr. Arnold, for allowing us to get to know you better! You’re a GREAT Gator!
Mrs. Cade by Abby Mikus
I asked Mrs.Cade, “What is your favorite part about South Creek so far this last couple of weeks?” She said, “There are so many things, but getting to know her second family really sticks out.” Her favorite part of the day is making and finding out connections that she has with her students. Have you heard that Mrs. Cade and other teachers are doing a Gator buddy club for all her students? So if you want to sign up keep an eye out for that form. She also said that Kindergarten and 4th grade are showing their best generosity to the CIP class, so thank you Kindergarten and 4th grade! She said that she has nice people around to help and she would like to say THANK YOU!!!
Fall Party by Gianna Waterman
In October, every class is having a Fall Party! There will be lots of fun games and activities. I think there are crafts also! At the end, normally, the students in each class will get a goodie bag filled to the top with pencils and plastic rings, and way more fun things. There will also be volunteers so if you want a relative or older friend to help, wait until a letter comes out saying when to email the teacher, so your relative/friend can be apart of the fall fun too! I have talked to Mrs. McIntire and she said that she was going to have an awesome fall party! She said she is expecting to play multiple games and have a blast!! She also said that her favorite part of the fall party is the crafts! She has normally had lots of great volunteers in the past, so there will probably be lots of volunteer this year! She also said that she doesn’t like to play the games, she likes to take pictures. She likes to decorate a little bit of fall, for the fall party and fall in general. Last but most certainly not least, she likes to have her kids broken up in groups, instead of being in 1 whole group. This sounds like an awesome fall party!
Fall Break Ideas if You're Staying Home by Ella Jacob
WOW! There are so many things you can do on fall break when you’re not going on vacation!
Tip #1 :You can always make slime! If you don’t know how to make slime, I will give you an easy mix slime recipe:
Put as much glue as you want
Add a spoonful of Baking Soda
Add a spoonful of Eye Contact Solution
Be patient and when it is coming together start working with it in your hands
Roll it in a ball in your hands to get it less sticky
Tip #2 :You can also always do the yoga challenge! If you don’t know what that is, I will tell you how to do it!
Get a device
Grab a friend
Go to flat land
Go on google and look up “2 person yoga”
Try to do whatever it shows you on pictures
Tip #3 :You can make 3-D shapes with hardening clay! If you don’t know how to make wet hardening clay, I will teach you a simple trick on how to make it!
Get some flower
Get a cup of water
Get some salt
Get a bowl
Get a spoon you can get dirty
Pour some water in the bowl
Pour some flour in the bowl
Pour some salt in the bowl
Stir it with the spoon
If it is too liquidy pour some flour in and a little bit of salt
If it is too powdery add some water and a little bit of salt
If it is not wet pour a tiny bit of water
You don’t want it too wet
If it is all of the things that were in my instructions, then you can make it the shape you want it to be
If it does not stick to your hands, then add some salt
You want it to stick to your hands
After you are done making your shape, set it somewhere to air dry and harden
It will take a couple nights to harden
When it has hardened, you can paint it if you want
A Talk with Mr. Arnold by Kelsey Brown
Hello all you South Creek Gators, it’s me Kelsey from the fifth grade. Today, I will talk to you about my interview with Mr. Arnold ,our new P.E. teacher. Mr. Arnold was telling me that he is the freshman basketball coach. He has coached girls for 4 years and he has coached the boys for 5 years. His favorite sport to play is corn hole and his favorite sport to teach is kickball or Wiffle ball. This is not Mr. Arnold’s first year as a P.E. teacher, he has been one for 3 years before. Mr. Arnold wants to stay at South Creek for as long as he can. He loves all the South Creek Gators and teaching everyone here.
Fall Break Ideas by Morgan Case
The weeks of October 9th and 16th will be fall break, and I’m here to tell you some good ways to spend your time if you’re not going on vacation. You can always have fun even if you aren’t going on vacation. One fun place you can go is Brown County. It is a state park and a beautiful one, especially at fall time because all of the tree leaves turn shades of amazing reds, yellows, and oranges. It is a marvelous place to go zip line, or go for a walk, or even have a picnic. Another place you could go on fall break is the Children's Museum. It is a fantastic educational place to go and it’s fun. Another exciting thing you can do is ride your bike and just be outside for fresh air. You could go on walks or even just be out in nature. You could also go over to a friend’s house to have fun and be with your friend. One last thing I will list for you to do on fall break is to be with your family and to have fun with your family members. You can do all of this and more. Remember, you don’t have to be on vacation to have fun. Later Gators!
