1. Scarlet Ice by Roger Dier. Scarlet Ice is about John Janavaras, an aspiring hockey player, who lost his life during the meningitis epidemic of 1994 in Mankato. Janavaras was infected with bacterial meningitis, which is life-threating, and fought until the end.
