WILDLife Club Registration Coming Soon

The fall 2021 registration for our WILDLife Clubs will begin on Monday, September 20, at 8:00 a.m. Students will have the opportunity to join a variety of clubs including: Anime/Manga Club, Archery, Gaming Club, Environmental Club, Harry Potter Club, Science Olympiad, and more! Families and students will receive a detailed catalog via email on Sunday to begin the registration process.

Health Update

Unlike last year, communication regarding Covid cases will be targeted to those individuals who are directly impacted. In the event of a positive Covid diagnosis, we begin contact tracing to then identify close contacts. If your child is identified as a close contact, you will be contacted directly by a member of the Willard staff with next steps and additional information. This flowchart provided by LCPS Schools, details how decisions regarding quarantine and isolation are made.

Back to School Night Website

We are thrilled to showcase Willard Middle School through our Back to School Night website. Here, you will find welcome videos from the LCPS superintendent and our school board representatives, along with introductions from each of the amazing educators who work with your child each day. We hope this will be an ongoing resource to learn more about your child's classes and educators, including our administrative team and school counselors.

Volleyball Tournament Sign Up

On Wednesday, October 27, will be participating in the Dulles South Charity Volleyball Tournament at Lightridge High School, starting at 6:30 p.m. This annual charity competition between Lunsford, Mercer, and Willard strives to raise money for local charities.

In order to be able to participate in this amazing event, we need enthusiastic, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders who love to play volleyball. Participants will need to commit to at least two practices, either before or after school, for no more than an hour. In addition, participants will need to be able to have a ride to and from Lightridge on game day!

We will be providing a free Willard Volleyball t-shirt to all participants, so it's definitely a win-win. We would love to have you as part of our team, so please complete the sign up form no later than Friday, October 1, to register and receive further information.

Upcoming Fall Growth Assessments

The Virginia Department of Education has created Fall Growth Assessments in both reading and math to aid teachers in identifying any unfinished learning from last year and set a benchmark for measuring future growth. All students in grades 6 through 8 will take the Reading Fall Growth Assessment. For math, only students enrolled in Math 6, Foundations of Algebra, and Pre-Algebra will take the Math Fall Growth Assessment. Please note that students in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II/Trig do not participate in the Fall Growth Assessment. However, our Willard Scholars in these courses will take an assessment, at the same time, crafted by their teachers.

At Willard, we will participating in a modified testing day schedule on the below listed testing days. Students will be testing on the following dates:

  • Monday, October 4: Reading Fall Assessment

  • Tuesday, October 5: Math Fall Assessment

For detailed information about this assessment and for information about how to parent refuse the test, please click here.

Show Your School Spirit

Show your school spirit by making your first Willard apparel purchase of the school year. On Monday, September 20, the spirit store website will open for orders until Friday, October 1. To get started, click on this flyer that highlights all of the details or go to: https://WILLARD21.ITEMORDER.COM.

Picture Day Coming Soon

On Thursday, October 7 and Friday, October 8, we will have our first picture day opportunity for our scholars. They will be taking their pictures through the Health & P.E. block. Students and families will receive direct information regarding how to purchase this year's photos directly from our vendor Victor O'Neill.

Library Card Access

Interested in access to even more books and online resources? Then, you definitely want to apply for a Loudoun County Public Library (LCPL) card. If you complete this form for the LCPL and bring it into our library, we will gather the library card for you—exciting! In addition, the library offers homework help. Luckily, the library has a wealth of online resources to help students (and parents!) navigate tough assignments. New this year is HelpNow, an all-in-one suite featuring free, live online tutoring seven days a week for students in kindergarten and older, plus a 24/7 writing lab. Access HelpNow and dozens of other eResources in LCPL's Online Learning Hub.

CLAWS Club Lessons for This Week

This week, we continue our CLAWS Club Activities. We will have the pleasure of reading our school-wide book Song for a Whale, engaging in writing, exploring our goals and achievements, while also partaking in our Second Step Curriculum. This week's Second Step work with focus on personal strengths, interests, learning something new, and determining what we can learn from making mistakes.

Dress Code Update

The Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) School Board recently voted and approved the newly proposed dress code policy. To see and review the most recent dress code document, please click here. In addition, if you would like to follow our school board and have access to the latest and great information, feel free to check out their webpage.

Crosswalk Reminder

When arriving and leaving during peak drop-off and pick-up hours (8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.), please be sure to utilize the crosswalk located at the front of the building to enter and exit the parking lot. Crossing in other locations creates a safety concern as well as impedes efficient drop-off and pick-up procedures.
