Volleyball Tournament Sign Up
In order to be able to participate in this amazing event, we need enthusiastic, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders who love to play volleyball. Participants will need to commit to at least two practices, either before or after school, for no more than an hour. In addition, participants will need to be able to have a ride to and from Lightridge on game day!
We will be providing a free Willard Volleyball t-shirt to all participants, so it's definitely a win-win. We would love to have you as part of our team, so please complete the sign up form no later than Friday, October 1, to register and receive further information.
Upcoming Fall Growth Assessments
The Virginia Department of Education has created Fall Growth Assessments in both reading and math to aid teachers in identifying any unfinished learning from last year and set a benchmark for measuring future growth. All students in grades 6 through 8 will take the Reading Fall Growth Assessment. For math, only students enrolled in Math 6, Foundations of Algebra, and Pre-Algebra will take the Math Fall Growth Assessment. Please note that students in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II/Trig do not participate in the Fall Growth Assessment. However, our Willard Scholars in these courses will take an assessment, at the same time, crafted by their teachers.
At Willard, we will participating in a modified testing day schedule on the below listed testing days. Students will be testing on the following dates:
Monday, October 4: Reading Fall Assessment
Tuesday, October 5: Math Fall Assessment
For detailed information about this assessment and for information about how to parent refuse the test, please click here.

Library Card Access
Interested in access to even more books and online resources? Then, you definitely want to apply for a Loudoun County Public Library (LCPL) card. If you complete this form for the LCPL and bring it into our library, we will gather the library card for you—exciting! In addition, the library offers homework help. Luckily, the library has a wealth of online resources to help students (and parents!) navigate tough assignments. New this year is HelpNow, an all-in-one suite featuring free, live online tutoring seven days a week for students in kindergarten and older, plus a 24/7 writing lab. Access HelpNow and dozens of other eResources in LCPL's Online Learning Hub.
CLAWS Club Lessons for This Week
This week, we continue our CLAWS Club Activities. We will have the pleasure of reading our school-wide book Song for a Whale, engaging in writing, exploring our goals and achievements, while also partaking in our Second Step Curriculum. This week's Second Step work with focus on personal strengths, interests, learning something new, and determining what we can learn from making mistakes.
