Miss Wetzel's Counselor Corner

Boomer is coming to Stonegate! To wrap up the annual bullying prevention lessons, Boomer, the official mascot for the Indiana Pacers, will be visiting Stonegate on Wednesday, October 10th for an Anti-Bully convocation! This will be a 45 minute event where Boomer will have the students on their feet cheering him along as he performs his stunts on the trampoline. This will be an all student and staff event only. Kindergarten, PreK, and 1st grade classes will be joining Boomer in the gym starting at 9:15am. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade classes will join Boomer in the gym starting at 1:15pm. This will not interfere with their lunch or recess for the day. Your child is encouraged to wear Pacer’s gear to cheer on Boomer!

College Go Week was a success! I hope the students enjoyed learning more about Indiana Colleges!

SGE Spotlight: Third Grade

The third grade kicked off their specialty animal research project by going to the zoo. Students selected an animal and have started the process of becoming an "expert specialist".

WTHR Weather Academy visited our third graders this month. They answered our questions, showed us many weather instruments, talked about being safe with weather, let us see their weather van, and gave us with rain gauges and electronic weather tools. It was informative and fun!

Our First E-Day

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Our first E-Day is almost here! If on the actual day of our E-day (Thur. Oct. 4th) your child does not get his/her assignment completed, please know you have additional time. The district due date of the E-day assignment is by the end of the school day on Mon. Oct. 8th.

If you do not have access to an electronic device or Wi-Fi at home, SGE has set in place the following accommodations:

  • Friday, Oct. 5th from 2:30 – 3:30 – Students are able to stay after school to access a stand-alone device to complete their E-day assignment. SGE staff will support students during this time.
  • Parent/Guardian transportation will need to be provided home. Student pick-up will be at Door #1/main entrance.
  • Please simply reach out to your child’s teacher and s/he will be happy to assist you in getting you access to a stand-alone device.

Thank you!

We look forward to your support and participation and can't wait to have you join us for the 2018 International Fair. We will be in touch in September to further coordinate. Questions? Want to Attend a Pacers Game?

Mark your calendars for this year’s Stonegate night at a Pacers game on Saturday, October 20! Indiana Pacers vs Brooklyn Nets at 7:00PM. This is a fun activity for the family if you are having a stay-cation during Fall Break and if you can’t go on October 20 the Pacers are offering discounted tickets to three other games. Stonegate PTO receives a portion of all ticket sales! Info packets were sent home two weeks ago. If you need another one, please let your child's teacher know.

We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.

Examples include:

  • Field Trip Chaperones
  • Out of Town/Overnight Chaperones
  • Tutors
  • Volunteer Coaches
  • Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
  • Library Helpers
  • After Prom Workers
  • Field Day/Jog-A-Thon Volunteers
  • Book Fair Sales/Athletic Ticket Sales

During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee* for the full background check which will expire after 5 years. The link to apply for the full background check can be accessed on the Volunteers/BRAVO link on the ZCS main webpage. For more information, contact the Volunteer/BRAVO Coordinator.

During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.

Examples Include:

  • Lunch Guests
  • Classroom Guest Speakers
  • Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences

We ask that all visitors schedule an appointment to meet with teachers, counselors, administrators and all other staff members so that we may best serve everyone. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.

*ZCS thanks all volunteers for generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check.

Did You Know?

ZCS, like other public schools, has a no-idling policy for vehicles on campus. The purpose of the policy is to limit vehicle emissions that might be brought into the schools and adversely impact the health of our students and staff. If you are stopped on campus for more than 5 minutes, please remember to turn off your engine. We thank you for abiding by this policy to help reduce the exposure to these emissions.
