Mercutio

People should learn when to joke and when to be serious

Act 1 Scene 4

Mercutio is speaking to Romeo about Romeo about Romeo's dream that he had last night and says, "That dreamers often lie" (pg 3 line 53). While Romeo is trying to explain to his friend Mercutio the dream he had last night, Mercutio isnt taking anything seriously and is making jokes to him. This relates to the theme, people should learn when to joke and when to be serious, because Mercutio should be serious at a time like this when his friend is trying to tell him something, but instead he is joking around.

Act 2 Scene 4

When Mercutio is making fun of the nurse to Peter he says, "Good, Peter, to hide her face, for her fan's the fairer face" (pg 6 line 53). Mercutio is saying how the nurse should cover her face with her fan because the fan would be prettier then she is. This relates to the theme because once again Mercutio is making jokes that are now rude so he needs to learn when to stop.

Act 3 scene 1

When Mercutio is talking to Benvolio about how he is hurt he says, "Ay, ay, a scratch...Go villain, fetch a sergeon." Mercutio was joking around and being careless with his words towards tybalt so they got in a fight and Tybalt accidentally killed Mercutio. This relates to the theme, people should learn when to make jokes and when to be serious, because if Mercutio was being serious instead of joking around he would still be alive.

Theme

Another theme throughout the story is that people should do anything for love. According the story it states, "For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo" This is explaining that there was never a story more full of pain than the story of Romeo and Juliet. This relates to the theme because Romeo and Juliet both died because they love each other so much.
