ELA and Social Studies Update

Week of November 10, 2014

We are almost there!

Thank you everyone for your continued efforts over the past months. We are almost in the home stretch as we prepare to get ready for the Thanksgiving holiday break (Yipeee). I wanted to give you some FYI for this week as we move forward.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask.

PLC Tuesday November 11, 2014

I will be meeting with grade level teachers for a redelivery of writing instruction materials. We will meet in the grade level chair's classroom.

Please bring any questions you may have to this meeting as well.

Great first week!

Thank you for your hard work in putting together your RTI activities for the week. Last week I emailed some websites that had different activities grades 2-5 that could be used during the RTI time period. I also will be copying different hands on activities for you to use as well. It is not mandatory that you use these resources. However, as a grade level, please get together and decide if the resources would benefit your students. Although each class is unique, through our discussions we are seeing students need help with the following skills:

  • Phonemic Awareness
  • Vocabulary
  • Writing
  • Unit 1 standards
  • Sentence structure

These are the skills that we should focus on during RTI as well as classroom instruction. In addition, in the grade level's chair boxes I placed some materials that I picked up from the warehouse. Some of the activities deal with reading, writing and grammar. Please peruse these materials and see if this would also be of use during RTI.

Also, we have the leveled book room that is located in the media center. There are plenty of books for all grade levels that will help reinforce literacy skills taught during class and reinforced during RTI. Please utilize this great resource.

Pre Test

The pre test for the last unit for this semester has been given to all K-3 teachers. Grades 4 and 5 will receive their test this week. If you have not already done so, please administer the test to students. The data trackers are uploaded to the portal. Please be sure that your data tracker is uploaded to the portal no later than November 14, 2014.

Social Studies

All grade levels have received the last unit pre test for social studies. If you have not administered your pre test, please do this week. The data trackers are uploaded to the portal. These data trackers should be uploaded to the portal no later than November 14, 2014.

I will send an email to everyone with a copy of their test, answer key and data tracker.
