Smith Middle School

Mission: The purpose of Smith Middle School is to ensure learning for all members of our school community.

We are looking forward to another incredible Festival of Cultures celebration at Smith Middle School this year. All families are invited to join us on the evening of March 21, from 6:00 - 8:00pm!

The event is free to enter to enjoy tables about countries/cultures and watch cultural performances on the stage. Tickets for food and activities can be purchased for cash only (4 tickets for $1). All proceeds will be donated to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Our last Smith home volleyball game is scheduled for Monday, March 20. Due to a number of concerns arising from our student fans not following adult direction at the game, rough-housing, wandering the building, and leaving and returning to school property, we are requiring all Smith student fans to attend the game with a parent. Students are expected to sit in the student section or with their parent at the game. Students without a parent in attendance at Monday's volleyball game will need to leave the building by 3:30pm. We appreciate your support in creating a positive environment for our student-athletes.

When we return from Spring Break, students will be required to update the management software on their iPad. This will take place at school, but there are some steps families can do at home to make the transition simpler.

Please make sure that your iPad operating system is up-to-date with the latest version. To check for and install iOS updates, please do the following:

Go to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available, please install it. If the iPad is up-to-date, a message will be displayed with the current version and “iPadOS is up to date”.

For those celebrating, I would like to wish our families a joyful Ramadan. If your student is fasting and would prefer not to be in the cafeteria, they are welcome to be in the Smith media center during their lunch period. Please let me know if we can assist with any additional accommodations.

We are excited to host the Regional Finals Tournament for the National History Bee, National Science Bee, and International Geography Bee here at Smith on April 15th. All students took a qualifying exam in their social studies classes in December or January. We are proud to say we have a tremendous number of qualifiers eligible to participate in the regional tournament. Students were notified if they qualified through their social studies class. We are looking forward to a great turnout as we are hosting the event for the 2nd year in a row here at Smith. It is now time to register if you would like to participate. Please see the letter with registration details.

The scheduling deadline for both Athens and Troy High has been extended to Tuesday, March 21st, at 3pm. Please make sure that you are submitting your requests in Powerschool. As a friendly reminder, high school counselors will be visiting each middle school after spring break to review course requests. If requests are not entered by the March 21st deadline, counselors may input course requests for you.

All items sold at school need to be pre-approved by the office. Students cannot bring in items to sell out of their lockers before, during, or after school. Thank you!

Please remember that we ask that parents do not pick students up after 2:45pm unless it is a true emergency. If you have an appointment to get to, please pick students up before 2:45pm.

Please take a moment to review the drop-off / pick-up map below. We are seeing some specific issues in the parking lot that we want to bring to your attention.

The middle lane is for drop-off / pick-up only. Please do not park in that row. Pulling in and out of the parking spots is slowing down drop-off and creating dangerous situations for students and vehicles.

If you are going to park your car for drop-off / pick-up, please use the third row of parking spots highlighted in below in blue.

Please do not drop students off at the Martell/Cotswold intersection.
