Early life

Bill Gates was born William Henry Gates the third on October 28, 1955 in Seattle Washington. Gates showed much interest in computers at an early age, able to use computers at his school, Lakeside school that were donated by a Seattle company. Gates was 1 of 3 siblings Kristianne and Libby. His family was upper middle class, his father was a lawyer and his mother whom he was very close to was involved charities.


Gates attended Lakeside School from 1967-1973 after that he attended Harvard College, while in college he originally wanted a career in law but his freshman year saw him spend more time in the computer lab than in class. He scored 1590 out 1600 on his SAT'S he was also a national merit scholar. Gates dropped out to pursue his career in technology.

Paul Allen

Paul Allen was a friend of Gates, they met at Lakeside, they were fast friends bonding over their common enthusiasm for computers. They disagreed quite regularly but spent much time working on computer programs. Gates and Allens first business venture was "Traf-o-data" which earned them $ 20,000. In 1974 Gates joined Allen where they learned about The Altair 8800 mini computer kit, they contacted the company MITS and told them they had software and code to run it. They actually didn't have code or software to run but, they were asked to show them they could do it so they scrambled to write software and they did, they were hired to work at MITS. This lead to the duo coming together to form mciro-soft.

Early Microsoft

In the end of 1978, Gates moved the company to Belleve, Washington, just east of Seattle, Gates placed himself as head of the company, which grossed 2.5 million dollar that year, Gates was only 23. gates had a talent for running a company he acted as spokesperson, he even reviewed every line of code the company shipped. Between 1978 and 1981 the company exploded staff increased from 25 to 128 revenue shot up from 4 million to 16 million, by 1983 the company went global.


Through technological innovation, keen business strategies, and aggressive business tactics Gates became one of the richest people in the world and built the world largest software company.
