SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE AN ORIGINAL VOGELTOWN LEARNER'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'respectful'.
TE REO FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
It has been another busy week at Vogeltown. Our tamariki have been amazing, getting involved in all school life has to offer. What has impressed me lately is the participation in the Cross Country training. This has been traditionally viewed as 'torture' by the kids, but our kids have been training without any complaints and have really enjoyed the chance to run, walk, skip the cross country course - tu meke whanau!
Build a Business for our Paetoki team has been another success. This unit of work always brings about interesting behaviours as our tamariki have to work together on their business venture. This has been a very positive Build a Business in 2022 with lots of great ideas and collaboration from the teams! I can not wait for Market night on the Thursday 8th September (5.30pm - 7.00pm).
Speeches has also been going on behind the scenes. Again, these have traditionally brought about a lot of anxiety - however in 2022, this has been a very positive experience! We can not wait for the Paetoki speech finals next week!
We are very impressed with our Vogeltown learners - they continue to show all the values of a 'Vogeltowner' - to be Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous and Kind. Ka mau to wehi whanau!
On the property front, we are excited today to receive the new sliding doors for the inside of the Junior school upgrade. This is going to make these spaces warmer, quieter and much more functional for the classes. These will not be big 'barn' spaces, they will still be individual rooms with the option to open them up should classes want to collaborate. we will put some photos in the newsletter and on facebook next week.
The next couple of weeks spells the end of the winter sports season. If you want your child(ren) to get involved in some summer sports, please see Mrs Sleep's section below. Bring on summer sport!
I encourage those of your thinking about voting for our school Board of Trustees, to make your vote count and get it in to school. You can post it or bring it in to the school senior office.
Nga mihi nui Vogeltown whanau,
Mr O and the VS team

COVID-19 UPDATE AT VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - WEEK 5, TERM 3
We have had 1 new case of covid at Vogeltown this week. We know that there is probably going to be more as we go on this term - however at the stage it is not making a resurgence.
Our average attendance for this week has been at 88.0%. We are sitting at 87% for the term, we really would like to get this average up to the magic 90% if we can. We still have had a number of learners becoming unwell with colds - these seem to manifest as sore tummies and headaches.
Please remember we are still in a pandemic and we must continue to keep being vigilant with hand washing and keeping safe.
For more detailed information, please refer to:

WHANAU POINTS UPDATE - WK 5, T3 2022
We had over 1,000 tokens handed out over the last 2 weeks - this is a record for Vogeltown! That is a lot of our learners making awesome choices at break times!
We now have 3 whanau on 17 points! It is going to be a close race to the end of the term. We have the Cross Country coming up in 2 weeks - and the more runners we have in each whanau, the more points the whanau receives - this includes parents/caregivers! If you want to run with your child(ren) on the day, then come and join in!
We have a whanau sing off at the end of this term too - lots of chances for whanau points to change!
VOGELTOWN CROSS COUNTRY 2022
A big thanks to Mrs Lash for taking on the PE and health portfolio for Vogeltown School since Miss Fleming left us last term.
The details for the Cross Country day is below, we encourage all parents and caregivers to attend under the orange settings - we even encourage you to join in the run! Every parent/caregiver who runs with their child(ren) will get a point for their whanau!
A big well done to all our Vogeltowners who have been out practising for this event. We do not care whether our learners run or walk (or hop and skip) as long as they get involved in the day in some way - they can take it as seriously as they want.
Check out the organisation for the day below:
THANKS TO SPUDZ!
A massive thank you to Cassey and Frank from Spudz Produce. Spudz are providing fruit each week for those tamariki who are unable to bring fruit to school. We really appreciate their generosity and encourage you to support them - they have a great little shop in Borrell Ave, Westown - definitely worth checking out for your fruit and veges!

WELCOME TO VOGELTOWN SCHOOL
Haere mai, Haere mai to Vogeltown School!
This week at assembly we welcomed Scarlett Beamsley in to Rm 7. A massive welcome to Scarlett and her whanau, we know you will enjoy your time with us.
We also put the Korowai (Te Korowai of Manaaki) around Emily Bush, who we never got to celebrate as it was during one of our lockdowns.
ENROLMENTS 2022/2023
In September the Board of Trustees will be advertising any 2023 available spaces for out of zone students wishing to enrol at Vogeltown School. If living out of zone please ensure that we have children's names and your contact details on our database so that we can make contact when the out of zone enrolment process commences. Please note that children living in zone have automatic right of enrolment.

MR O'S FRIENDLY REMINDERS
1) Please remember to contact the school office if your child is absent or going to be late. You can report absences via Skool Loop, text 021 753 680 or ph 06 753 6843. Please do not use SeeSaw for student absences - these must come through the office.
2) Please be courteous before and after school with parking around the school sites. We have lots of kids and not enough parks, so please allow time to get to school and be patient around the streets.
Thanks whanau
Stay safe and be kind to each other. Thank you for the ongoing support of Vogeltown School, we appreciate the community we live in.
On behalf of the Vogeltown team,
