Langston's Letters

September 12 - September 16

A Note from the Principal

Dear Langston Hughes Family,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Homecoming Pep Rally! We had excellent weather, music by our very own DJ Bourne, and live entertainment. The students really enjoyed the bouncy houses. They were also treated to cotton candy, popcorn, hot dogs and burgers. We gave away books, backpacks and uniforms (to new families), sold t-shirts and held a raffle for 2 prizes. Ms. Howard sold all of the herbs and vegetables that were harvested from the school garden.

While the students were enjoying themselves, parents were able to drop off school supplies, visit the classrooms and complete the beginning of the year forms. We ended the day with a performance by the Genesis Steel Band Youth. Check our website, ps233.org, later in the week for videos of their performances. Tomorrow is the first full day of school for all students and I expect that we will begin the first full week of school with the good vibes that we cultivated on Saturday.

Have a wonderful week!

Homecoming Week

Now that the pep rally is over, let us continue enjoying our return to school by participating in the rest of the Homecoming Spirit Week activities.

Monday - Uniform Stylie!

I can't wait to see how creative you can be in sharing your individual style while wearing your school uniform.

Tuesday - T-shirt Tuesday

Wear your favorite Langston Hughes School t-shirt. You can rock the latest king of the jungle or a vintage PS 233 t-shirt.

Wednesday - Woke Wednesday

Show off your cultural pride! Wear a t-shirt, flag, or the colors of your country.

Thursday - A Day in the Life of a Student 5:30pm-8:00pm

Parents will have an opportunity to learn about the curriculum and classroom expectations for the year. Complete details will be shared on Tuesday.

Friday - Rising Star Award Ceremony #1

Students will be celebrated for their success on the state and in-house exams last year. They will also learn the expectations for success this year.

The First Day of School

I enjoyed meeting and welcoming the families of our littlest scholars. Parents had an opportunity to see the spaces where their little ones will begin their academic journey. Students had an opportunity to begin forming relationships in their new classroom community. It was a wonderful experience. We only had two people in tears...I assured those parents that they would be fine without their little ones for a couple of hours (lol).
