Remote Learning Update for VCS families:

In Late July, the Aurora Public Schools (APS) board of directors agreed that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a remote 1st quarter for 2020-21 would be safest for all APS schools. As we have communicated already, VCS plans to follow the APS decision. We have actually been planning for this possibility for quite some time, and feel that both VCS West and VCS East are well-prepared for this pivot to remote instructional delivery. The decisions that we have made over the past 3 months have put us in a strong position to ensure the delivery of a quality remote program.

VCS teachers and support staff returned this past Monday to train on our new remote model. With the first day of school for students fast approaching on August 17th (except Kindergarten, which starts on August 19th), it is time to provide more information about how to pick up student Chromebooks and textbooks, how to complete your VCS registration, view our new school calendar, etc… I will highlight each of these individually below:

Instructional Materials (Chromebook and Textbooks) Pick-up:

Parents/Guardians of VCS students for both campuses can pick up their Chromebook, textbooks, and other learning materials for each child between 10 am and 6 pm next Thursday, August 13th. Please go to the West campus if you have West student(s); go to the East campus if you have East student(s). Before you go to either campus, please write the name of your children in 3” letters on a piece of paper and visibly place these names inside your passenger side dashboard. When you come through the drop-off lane, please wear your mask and stay in your car. A masked VCS staff member will read your dashboard names and radio into the building to have your customized materials brought out to your vehicle. These materials will be placed in the back of your vehicle, or in the trunk of your vehicle. There will be no physical contact between you and VCS staff at any time and social distancing will be followed.

Please use the link to print. Please note that the main differences are a later start, change to remote learning for the 1st quarter, and a longer winter break. A copy of this calendar will also be included with your learning materials when you pick them up next week.

Internet Required:

Please note that a home internet connection is a requirement for the VCS remote learning plan. If you do not have an internet connection where your child(ren) will be accessing the VCS remote learning platform, there are low cost and no-cost options that you can consider. An attachment is included to provide you with this contact information. Please also feel free to contact VCS if you have other special circumstances surrounding internet connectivity. *It is important to note that without an internet connection, your student(s) will not be able to access the VCS remote learning program.

Due to the current circumstances, we will not be hosting our annual registration event. Instead, we are taking advantage of this unusual time to transition to more of a paperless organization. Pay School Fees Online!

You can now pay your school fees through our online platform of RevTrak. You can go to our website or click here to pay any school fees your child may have. We will only be accepting online payments for school fees at this time.

Sample Remote Learning Schedules

At the elementary level, teachers are fast at work developing grade-specific schedules to include both synchronous learning (live on screen) and asynchronous learning (pre-recorded lessons, students learning on their own). Because teachers in 5th-12th grades are departmentalized, the schedules are set, and tend to look like a typical school day.

Students and families will receive detailed schedules from their homeroom or Advisory teacher. Information will include when and how to login to class for attendance, etc. Be on the lookout for those next week.

Infinite Campus Parent Portal

Log in to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to access student course schedules and to check grades and attendance.

Student Emails

Every year, we clear out and reset student emails. Occasionally, a student may receive a new email address. We will be completing this task this week in order to be prepared for the start of school. Updated login information will be included with Chromebooks on our student materials pick-up day, Thursday, 8/13.
