Halo Notes

St. Louis Catholic High School | Thurs., March 10, 2022

From the Desk of Our Principal

"Tell me and I will forget, show me and I may remember; involve me and I will understand.”

- Confucius

Watching the Biology II students campaign for the “best organ”, complete with mudslinging and campaign ads, reminds me of the above-mentioned quote. Throughout the campus on any given day, our students are actively engaged. Please read the link below on the Senior Service Day as another beautiful example of this active engagement. With over a 95% attendance serving six area locations, our students and faculty became the hands and feet of Christ within the community. Knowing our students and being a community of learners is at the heart of our mission.

End of the Third Quarter

Report cards will be emailed next Friday, March 18. The math department reviewed a grade calculator with students so they can make goals for the second semester. Click here to download the spreadsheet. If a student fails the 4th quarter and the Final exam, they fail for the year regardless of the course average. Click here to review the grading scale. If your student has any questions or concerns, please have them see or email their teacher or counselor as soon as possible.

Pre-ACT & ACT

Testing was a success! We are so proud of our students and teachers for all of the hard work they did to prepare for the tests this past week. We are excited to see their results in the coming weeks, and the reports will be shared with parents as soon as possible.

New Student Scheduling Meeting

We are so happy to welcome our newest Saints to our community! In preparation for next year, the counseling team will host a meeting for parents of new students in the Pavilion on Tuesday, March 22 at 5:30 p.m. We will review course selections and other pertinent information for the upcoming school year. Click here to review the course planning guide and course request forms under "Resources". Please review this information and discuss your student's schedule requests with them prior to the meeting. Additionally, we ask that you bring a copy of your student's third quarter report card with you to the meeting so that the counselors can review it when inputting the students' schedules.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to Emily Pettaway or your student's counselor, Ms. Aycock (last names A-J) or Mrs. Segura (last names K-Z), if you have any questions prior to the meeting

Lunch and Learn

At the Lunch and Learn this week, Library Media Specialist, Melanie LeJeune taught teachers how to create group assignments in Microsoft Teams. This way makes it easy for groups to collaborate, and they can turn in one copy of the assignment that can be graded separately or together.

Saints Band Members Rack Up

A few students in the Saints Band participated in McNeese State University's Regional Honor Band over this past weekend (March 3-5). Ragan Kee and Nicholas Spicer made Blue Band while Tyler Tran made Gold Band. Tyler Tran also received a scholarship from McNeese's Music Department. All three students spent the weekend rehearsing songs for their concerts. They learned 4 pieces of music in 8 hours. When they weren't rehearsing they were attending Master Classes for their specific instrument, or watching a concert provided by McNeese's Jazz Band and Wind Symphony. Congratulations to all!

Senior Service Day

On Wednesday, our Seniors participated in the inaugural Senior Service Day. Students signed up for several sites, including church parishes, Catholic Charities, Consolata Cemetery, Camp Karol, and the Hobo Hotel. Students and their faculty site captains spent the morning being the hands and feet of Christ and were treated to lunch in the Pavilion by Bolton Ford. We are so grateful for the opportunity to be Saints in action in our community!

"What I didn't know (would happen) is God showed me gifts from each of these students that have never surfaced in the halls or classrooms of St. Louis Catholic." "It was truly a great day to be a Saint!" - Julie Hebert, English Department Chair '97

Adoration for our Saints Community

Here at St Louis Catholic, we are always looking for opportunities to allow our students to grow in their faith and spend time with our Lord. It is when we sit at the feet of Jesus that we are able to discern our hearts and slow down and listen to His voice. We will be having adoration each Friday during Lent here on campus. We would also like to invite parents to come on campus and adore our Lord. Here is a link for parents to sign up for our adoration Friday, March 4th. Please sign up and spend a Holy Hour with Jesus.
