Redcoat Band Members Selected to ATSSB All-Region Band
The Gainesville High School Redcoat Band participated in the ATSSB All-Region Band auditions on Saturday, December 1. Hundreds of students from across the region auditioned for a spot into one of the two bands. Seven GHS band members were selected, and will advance to the Area level of the competition.
Earning a place in the Region 2 Concert Band were Melody Rutherford and Eduardo Huerta, Trombone; Mauricio Millan, Tuba; and Cesar Barrios, Trumpet. Selected to the Symphonic Band were Harmony Rutherford, Horn; Angel Avila, Tenor Saxophone; and Miguel Covarrubias, String Bass.
Lee Spelling Bee Results
The Lee Intermediate spelling bee was held on Thursday, December 6. All Lee students were invited to first compete in a written spelling bee. The top 18 students advanced to the next round, which was the verbal spelling bee held today.
Congratulations to our top 3, who will all go on to compete at the district bee January 31. The first place speller, Amira, will also compete at the County bee in February. This bee went 33 rounds deep, with Amira's winning word: execrations.

Chalmers Spelling Bee Results
The Chalmers Spelling Bee was held on Tuesday, December 4. Prior to this bee, individual classroom competitions were held and the winner from each class advanced to the campus bee. Congratulations to each student who earned classroom champ and competed at the next level.
Jazlyn Austin-Smith won the fourth grade bee by correctly spelling the word ‘pronounce’ in round 9.

Tristan Hambley won the third grade bee by correctly spelling the word ‘groan’ in round 6.
Top 4: Tristan Hambley (1st), Antonio Rangel, Jarek Marin, Vanessa Krumrine (T 2nd)
Maivry Montgomery won the second grade bee by correctly spelling the word ‘creatures’ in round 19.

Power of Life Come to DAEP
On December 5, 2018, Cory Broadnax, a member of the Power for Life Team visited the students at the Margaret Galubinski Achievement Center. He brought to them an inspirational message of hope and demonstrated some of the feats of strength that he and his team perform.
