A Peek Inside the Week - Oct. 28th, 2022
A Note from Your Principals
It's hard to believe it's the last Friday of October and that next week it will be November! With the new month, comes the opportunity for our Attendance Team to meet and review student attendance data for last month, as well as cumulatively since the beginning of the year!
At one of our recent School Leadership Team meetings we discussed the impact of missing just one day of school, never mind being "chronically absent"; missing 10% of the school days offered.
While missing just one day of school means...
40 minutes of missed specials
90 minutes of missed math
90 minutes of missed reading
50 minutes of missed writing
30 minutes of missed science/health
Missing multiple days of school significantly adds up! If a student misses 10 days of school, they've missed:
600 minutes (10 hours) of instruction and new learning in math
300 minutes (5 hours) of differentiated, targeted math intervention/enrichment
600 minutes (10 hours) of instruction and new learning in reading
300 minutes (5 hours) of differentiated, targeted reading intervention/enrichment
500 minutes (8.3 hours) of instruction and new learning in writing
300 minutes (5 hours) of instruction and new learning in science or health
400 minutes (6.7 hours) of instruction in the specials areas
We have incredible interventions/supports if your family needs help ensuring your child(ren)'s regular attendance at school. Please do not hesitate to reach out!
Veterans' Day Assembly
Trimester #1 Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Early Release Wednesdays during the month of November (11/30) and December (12/7, 12/14, 12/21). Conferences will be offered both in-person and virtually. Like previous years, teachers will be using Sign Up Genius to schedule. If you haven't already received the link to sign up, you will in the very near future!
What Have We Been Up To?
Kindergarten also had the opportunity to learn about the Diwali when parent volunteers visited classrooms to teach about the holiday and its celebrations!
Read for the Record
This year's book selection was Nigel and the Moon by Antwan Eady, a beautiful story about a boy who dreams big and finally finds the courage to share his dreams with the world. Ask your child to share their thoughts about Nigel and the Moon and their own hopes and dreams!
You might even reread the book as a family. You can enjoy the author reading it aloud below!
October's PAWSitive Office Referrals & Shout Outs
As we head into the season of thankfulness and gratitude, please consider taking the opportunity to "shout out" any member of our ET school family. Our "family" includes teachers, paraprofessionals, support staff, nurses, office staff, custodians, administrators, bus drivers, crossing guards, kitchen staff, students, and parents. There is definitely someone who deserves appreciation in that group!
Share your thanks using this quick Google Form! Your shoutout will be shared on our morning announcements, through a "shout out" card, and/or on the PTO Facebook page!
