COVID-19: Heightened Risk of Abuse and Neglect
Please CLICK HERE to review the COVID-19 Mandated Reporting Document. The document outlines potential abuse and neglect issues that have increased due to the virus. Please note that during e-Learning, if you witness or suspect a situation that threatens the safety and well being of a child, you are still mandated to file a report with DSS by calling 1-888-CARE4US (888-227-3487). If you have any questions, please contact admin and the school counseling team.
School Counseling Resources
Just a reminder, our school counselors are available for Virtual Check Ins with students. A check in is an opportunity for the school counselor to help address any concerns that a teacher/staff member, parent, or student has regarding the student's social/emotional well being during eLearning. The check in is informal in nature and allows the school counselor to provide resources and strategies with the student and/or parents if needed or simply the opportunity for the student to connect virtually with another caring adult. If you have a student that you would like Ms. Motte or Mrs. Layne to check in with, please complete the Virtual Check In Request Form. Also, our school counselors have also enjoyed popping into virtual class meetings that teachers are hosting to help stay connected. If you haven't reached out already, please consider including your school counselor in an upcoming virtual class meeting. Please continue to share the TCES School Counseling Program Website with parents and students as there are valuable resources for supporting the emotional health of our students during this trying time including Social/Emotional eLearning Activities.
Entering TCES for eLearning and Packing your Room for Next Year!
A separate email will come out soon about packing for eternal and external moves. We are waiting for information from the district.
Social Media Postings
Thank you for your diligence and tireless efforts during our eLearning sessions each day. Your service to children and families has not gone unnoticed by administration, district office staff, and parents.
As a reminder, we have been entrusted by the district and state to follow a weekly work schedule Monday – Friday for 6 hours each day; 2 hours of which must be documented. Having talked to most of you, we know that you are devoting more than 6 hours each day to eLearning, just as you do when we are in the building. Many of you are sharing your teaching and learning experiences through Social Media. This is encouraging and exciting for us to see since we cannot be in your classrooms.
We have also noticed that leisure activities are being posted on Social Media during “school hours” (7am – 3pm). Please refrain from making these posts during “school hours”. We are blessed to be in a profession where we can continue to retain our monthly salaries, when many of our families and neighbors may not be as fortunate. We, especially now, do not want to give the impression that summer vacation has started for teachers while parents and community members are struggling with “home schooling” and making ends meet. Unfortunately, our integrity as educators will be questioned because of the perception of others.
eLearning Reminders
Reminder of Expectations with the Launch of 2nd Phase of eLearning:
1. You should be attempting/making phone or video contact with each of your students. Please make sure you’re taking to the child, not just the parents, if at all possible. Please note that contact should go beyond just emails. If you are hosting Google Hangouts/Meets, this would count.
a. To protect yourself, please plan to contact at least 2 students each day and document this in your office hour log.
2. We have had a few parents complain about Zoom after watching a segment on CN2, please make sure that you are using Google Hangouts/Meets. If you are struggling to use this, please reach out to Rachel Holloway/Geoffrey Wagner about this. I know many have had issues with sound and video quality. You should not be using Zoom unless it is with other adults.
Happy Birthday Titans!
