Reading/Daily 5
The letter "Cc" and the word "go" were our two topics of focus this week. We reviewed previous high frequency words by being given a sentence and then unscrambling the word cards to make that sentence ourselves. The students practiced using their visualization skills as we read an informative story on field trips. They also visualized and discussed trips they had taken outside of school to help them better understand the story. The -ab word family (cab, tab, jab, lab...) was also introduced this week. Keep reading and writing those CVC words at home for practice!
Math
Towards the end of last week, we began exploring fractions. We discussed halves and fourths and how halves are when an object is split into two equal parts and fourths are when something is split into four equal parts. This week, we enjoyed learning about probability and creating game spinners to see which color(s) the spinner would be most likely/less likely/equally likely to land on. We recorded those responses and made predictions about what would happen if we added another purple space to the spinner. On Thursday and Friday the students were able to start practicing addition!
Social Studies/Science
We wrapped up our "Where We Live" unit in Social Studies in which we talked about communities, globes, maps, landforms, and bodies of water. Now in our science chapter, we will discuss a little bit more about what the Earth's surface is made of and other landforms that can be found.
