With prompting and support, describe the relationship between illustrations and
the text in which they appear (e.g., what person, place, thing, or idea in the text an
illustration depicts).Grade 1
First graders are now working on the math topic of measurement and data. They are learning how to organize, represent and interpret data with up to three categories.
Guided reading group discussions center around making predictions, finding cause and effect relationships as well as discussing setting in a book and the author’s purpose for writing the selection. First grade is also learning about punctuation marks.
Students are continuing to work on double digit addition. Please remind your child to practice the math facts nightly, so that addition with larger numbers won’t feel too intimidating.
Second graders are continuing to write narratives and opinions. At the same time, they are busy finding facts as they close read a variety of nonfiction materials.
Students will be practicing reading short passages from the social studies textbook. They will be introduced to new vocabulary as well.
If you were not able to sign up for Parent-Teacher conference day, you may want to contact your child’s teacher to arrange for a meeting on a different day.
