WSMA Solo & Ensemble Festival (Feb 13) - Schedule Version 1.0

The WSMA Solo & Ensemble Festival will be held at Prairie View MS this year on Saturday, Feb 13. Our Friday Ensembles will participate in this event along with those of you who registered to perform solos and small ensembles. Here is Version 1.0 of the Schedule. Keep in mind that this is a rough draft and a new version with updates will be out this week.

We still need people to help serve as room monitors! It is easy to do and it is necessary to make the festival run (don't can still hear your kids play!). To sign up for a morning or afternoon shift just follow this link to the Sign-up Genius: THANK YOU!

WSMA Middle Level Honors Online Registration Due by This Friday

WSMA Middle Level Honors Band - This honors band takes place every October at the State Music Conference. Students must audition for a spot in this prestigous ensemble. Students must perform a Class B or A solo along with four required scales and sight-reading. To audition, complete the online registration and payment ($23) by Feb. 5.

EPOCH Sound Pep Band Night THIS Friday! (Feb 5 @ SPHS)

EPOCH Sound Pep Band Night is this Friday, February 5th. All 6th and 7th graders who are signed up will stay after school on Friday.

Friday, Feb 5th

2:50 pm – Participating 6th and 7th students meet in the band room

3:00 pm – Rehearsal

4:00 pm - Watch Drum Corps International, Sound of Sun Prairie, and Badger Band Videos

4:45 PM – Pizza in the band room (bring own drink ).

5:30 PM – Load Bus going to the HS (one way…must find a ride home after perform).

6:00 PM - MS musicians meet in the band room of SPHS to rehearse w/ Epoch Sound.

6:45 PM - Set-up in Fieldhouse of SPHS

7:00 PM – Pregame music will begin.

7:30 PM – Game Begins - students file out, put instruments away and are excused.

Students can stay for the remainder of the game, however they will not be supervised by Mr.Gleason or Mrs. Haraldson. Again, transportation home from the HS is the responsibility of the student’s family. Student’s will need to take their instruments home from the HS as well and return them on Monday.

8th Grade Registration This Week

A few reminders:

1) Students DO NOT have to audition to be in 8th Grade Band... just sign-up!

2) Students can, if interested, audition for the Wind Symphony (audition based band comprised of 8th and 9th graders).

3) Scheduling examples can be found in the information linked below. This will help show you how to schedule your classes in both 8th and 9th grade meeting all requirements and keeping band in your schedule.

This Week In Lessons

6th Graders will review Bb & Eb Scales and check off band music. We will still do 6th grade lesson on Thursday (reward day). 7th graders will continue to check off band music. 7th Graders with a Day 1 Thursday lesson should come in on Tuesday this week (due to 8th Grade Scheduling & Reward Day). PMMS Alum- Robert Rockman WINS Madison Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition!!!

Congratulations to current SPHS junior, Robert Rockman who won the “Final Forte” competition sponsored by the Madison Symphony Orchestra. He performed his marimba solo with the MSO at the Overture Center on Friday, January 29, 2016. The concert will be rebroadcast on WPT at 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 2 and again at 12 p.m. on Sunday, February 7. There is a nice video on Robert at

PMMS Alum - Jacob Sveum in Hollywood!

PMMS Alum and SPHS graduate, Jacob Sveum is part of the "Grease Live" production on Fox tonight airing from 6-9pm locally on Fox 47. Jacob is part of the casting department for the production and has been working with 75 of the shows actors the past two weeks. A nice Sun Prairie connection to the $16 million dollar production on the Warner Brothers lot in Burbank, CA! For some information, Jacob is the son of high school band director, Steve Sveum and recently visited PMMS in January!
