From the Desk of Pastor Paul
Dear Friends,
By now I’m pretty certain all of you have heard we are in the process of doing a new pictorial directory for our congregation! We are partnering with Lifetouch Photography in this effort during the Fall. What I am NOT certain about is whether or not you have signed up for an appointment! If you have not, I strongly encourage you to do so as an important part of our church family!
As one member pointed out to me, this is about more than a photography session for you or your family. It is an important step in creating a very practical tool to be used by our members in being able to know and relate with each other. Through the updated photos and address information, we will be able to care for and support one another more effectively in the future. So please make sure to secure an appointment if you’ve not done so already. You can find a link at www.olccp.com to make an appointment, or you can call the church office or sign up on Sunday mornings.
Sunday is World Communion Sunday when we celebrate our connection with other believers around the world. We will gather around the Lord’s Table as we commune with Christ, one another, and symbolically with others around the globe. This worldwide remembrance was initiated during the dark days of World War II as a way to acknowledge the faith connection of people from different nations, languages, and ethnic identities. So come and join with us as we celebrate our unity in Jesus Christ!
As we do, we will continue our reflections on “A Disciple’s Manifesto” in the Sermon on the Mount. Matthew 5:31-37 is our text for Sunday, and as Jesus addresses his disciples about pertinent life issues, he continues to offer practical teaching about how to “let your light shine before others so they may see our good works and give glory to your Father in heaven”. Please pray for God’s Spirit to illumine our minds and hearts so we may live more deeply into our identity as disciples of Jesus Christ in these challenging days of the early 21st century!
See you Sunday,
Pastor Paul
P.S. Remember we will also hold a Celebration of Life Service remembering Jill Crane on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary.

Introduction to Bible Basics
Sundays 9:00-10:00 a.m.
October 6th and October 20th in Heritage Hall
Led by Sally Montera
Do you remember a Sunday School teacher expecting you to memorize all the books of the Bible in order? Did you ever go to look up a Bible passage and weren’t quite sure where to look? Did you ever wonder what those little annotations meant or how the Bible was organized? Or are you like me and ever wondered what the background of the story you are reading is – where did this take place, why is the location significant, who are those people referenced, what does that word mean? This study will take up the basics of the Bible and how to approach its study. We will talk about Bible organization, footnotes, concordances, study Bibles, and maps - all designed to give you a solid foundation for future Bible studies.

Flu Shots: October 13th
The Fall season will soon be upon us. With the season comes the magnificent Fall colors, kids going back to school, trips to the cider mill, AND unfortunately the influenza virus.
Influenza viruses infect the nose, throat, and lungs causing a contagious sometimes deadly respiratory illness. An annual flu shot is the best defense against this nasty bug!
The flu season can begin as early as October and last until May. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends every person 6 months of age and older get vaccinated against the flu virus annually.
You will have convenient access to the flu vaccine at our annual Flu Shot Clinic October 13 from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm. The cost of the shot is covered by most insurance. Please bring your insurance card and identification with you.
Sign up in the Lakeview area following worship. Feel free to take a vaccine information sheet. The consent form which is completed prior to receiving the shot.
