Fall Plant Sale
It's time to bring out the mums! It’s as easy as 1-2-3!
1. Use the PDF order form below.
2. Buy coupons from the PTA.
3. Take your coupon to the Campbell Road Nursery (www.campbellrdnursery.com) to pick out your own plants!
Don’t forget to ask grandparents, friends, and neighbors if they would like coupons too! See the PDF flyer below for more information. Email Amy Toland at tolandfam@gmail.com with any questions!
Books & Beyond!
Kindergarten and 1st grade parents!
Be on the lookout in your child’s Friday Folder this week for one tracking sheet and more information on the Books and Beyond program. Kick off is Monday, October 2, 2017!
This is a yearlong program that allows children to read books and to submit the tracking sheets in a quest for monthly class prizes and individual awards at the conclusion of the program in April.
Some fun suggestions to help make this reading journey fun:
-Have your child decide how many sheets they would like to turn in on a monthly basis and set a reasonable goal. Remember this is intended to be a fun opportunity to read!
-Pick out books to read with your child (chapter books/ books to be read to him/her).
-Plan whether you or your child will fill in the lines (based on child’s ability to write).
-Set a goal to HAVE FUN while reading!
Tracking sheets can be dropped off in the classroom or in the main office in the Books and Beyond box. Make copies, print copies and have the tracking sheets ready, one sheet will be coming home this week! You can find more at: www.pennyroadpta.com; under the PTA info tab.
Best wishes to all the readers as they set forth on a journey to outer space!
Walk to School Day!
Join us for Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 4! This is a fun way for families to get their day started in a healthy way! The Cary Police Department will join us at two locations to make sure our walkers arrive to school safely!
When: Wednesday, October 4 at 8:20 am. We will begin walking at 8:30 am.
Where: Cambridge Pool parking lot (in the Regency neighborhood 0.5 miles towards Apex off of Penny Road) and the Glenridge pool parking lot (at the corner of Autumngate Drive and Kildaire Farm Rd).
You do not need to live in these neighborhoods to participate. You can simply park your car and walk. Make a poster to show everyone why you love Penny Road and you will win a Spirit Stick! (Make sure to put your name and classroom on the back and bring your poster to Ms. Martin when you get to school.)
Special Notes: When walking from Glenridge, the Cary Police will help you cross Kildaire Farm Road and enter the Windsor Oaks neighborhood. Walkers will then exit onto Penny Road, with the help of the Cary Police, at Magnolia Woods and continue on to school!
Spirit Wear
We want to ensure that all students get a spirit shirt this year and can participate in the fun spirit days! By making a $5 donation through this link, we will work with staff to make sure that we are able to get shirts to those who need them. Thank you for your support of all of our Pandas!
Book Fair Volunteers Needed!
We are in need of help for this Fall's Scholastic Book Fair (October 6-13). Please consider volunteering time to help our children pick out books. Shifts are in 2 hour increments. (we will take shorter shifts - just put a note in or send an email to Sherri.) Sign up for a date and time that works for you! And as an added bonus, volunteers receive a discount! Email Sherri Stecher at sestecher@gmail.com with any questions.
Round Up Time! Volunteers WANTED!
The PTA is so excited about our upcoming fall family event on October 21st! We are looking forward to seeing everyone there, but could also use a few extra hands to pull it off! If you have just an hour to help, have a teenager who needs service hours or have the whole afternoon to serve, we could certainly use you! Sign up here. Questions? Contact Laurie Cockman at laurietcockman@nc.rr.com. THANK YOU!!
Makerspace in the Creative Commons!
Mrs. Platts and Mrs. Nixon are in the process of creating a Makerspace in the Creative Commons and we need your help!
This area will be open to students, teachers, and the community as a place to create. The Makerspace will allow students to integrate and apply knowledge of science, math, technology, art, and engineering in order to create technologies and solutions for real-world problems. We are excited that we have received funding from the PTA to purchase items such as circuitry kits, building sets, and much more. However, we need your help in supplying the area with consumable items to be used in the Makerspace. Items may be brought directly to the Creative Commons!
We are in need of the following items to help get our Makerspace ready for use…
- Toilet paper & Paper towel rolls
- Paper/Styrofoam cups, bowls, & plates
- Brown bags
- Newspaper, packing peanuts, & bubble wrap
- Aluminum foil & Wax paper
- Masking tape & Decorative duct tape
- Pipe cleaners, & String/yarn/twine
- Buttons, Coffee filters, & Balloons (new, deflated)
- Popsicle sticks & Straws
- Paperclips, Paint sticks, & Rubber bands
- Playdough/modeling clay
- new or used Legos or K’Nex
