The Bear Necessities
James L. Collins Catholic School
From the Desk of Mrs. Hoyer
Good news!!! We have a family that has volunteered their trailer and truck for the Corsicana Christmas Parade, but still need someone to lead the decorating of our float. This is an easy and fun way to earn service hours. If you haven’t earned any yet, you could knock out all of them if you are willing to take ownership of this activity. If you’re interested, please email Christina Cozart today at ccozart@collinscatholicschool.org.
If you will be in town and attending Mass in English or Spanish this Saturday evening (November 20th) or Sunday (November 21st), it would be very helpful to have your children find Mrs. Hoyer, Mrs. Cozart, or Mrs. Anguiano at the end of Mass to pass out thank you cards to parishioners. The parishioners at Immaculate Conception support us in so many ways, it seems fitting to express our gratitude to them during this season. At each Mass, one of us will be in the back of the church holding a basket with the cards. Ideally, students would wear their uniform to Mass. Any help would be appreciated!
My best wishes to you and your family! May you all enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday together and get some much needed rest!
Parent Alert
Believe it or not, it’s already time to apply for financial aid for next year! The priority deadline is January 5th, but aid is awarded on a first come, first served basis. So, you will want to apply ASAP to ensure you receive the greatest possible amount of support.
Cornerstones in Action
Integrity & Involvement
Many thanks goes to the Emhouse 4H, a local high school group that has made several improvements to our PK playground. They started before the pandemic and wanted to ensure they saw the project through to the end, so they returned this fall to finish what they started!
Involvement
The 6th grade boys worked with Mrs. Whiteside to clean up Mary’s Courtyard garden area in preparation for 4H members' flowers.
PTC Corner
Christmas parties will be on Friday, December 17th. Please contact your room parent for more information about how you can assist.
Special thanks to everyone who ordered a long-sleeved spirit t-shirt or sweatshirt. We are turning in the orders today!

Club Updates
We are very grateful for the work our 4H Club did in Mary’s Courtyard garden area. It looks beautiful and happy with all the brightly colored flowers they planted. Way to go, ladies and gentlemen!
We need a couple of students to volunteer as new flag bearers. Current flag bearers will train new members after Thanksgiving break. Please tell your son/daughter to tell Mrs. Hoyer if he/she is interested in participating.
Club sponsors: Start thinking about how your club could participate in the Corsicana Christmas parade. Do you have a club T-shirt or other costume club members could wear for the parade? We want your club to show its spirit at the event! For those students who are in multiple clubs, you choose which one you would like to represent.
The week we return from Thanksgiving, the following clubs will meet:
- Cheer Club Tuesday 345-430
- Athletics Tuesday 345-5
- Book Club Wednesday lunchtime
- Little Flower Girls Wednesday 345-430
- Athletics Wednesday 345-5
- Star Wars Thursday 345-430
Chess, Choir, and Guitar Clubs will continue to meet as usual.
All club members are invited to join the Corsicana Christmas Parade wearing a costume, uniform, or T-shirt representing their club. It will be Saturday, December 4th beginning at 6pm. Parade participants should plan to arrive at the Ideal Self Storage parking lot located at 801 N. 13th Street at 5:30pm. Come out and show support for your school and favorite club! We are looking for an individual or several individuals to chair the parade and oversee the float decorations. If you are interested in chairing this - contact Mrs. Hoyer.

COVID Update
We’ve noticed that some students' mask-wearing practices have changed in recent weeks. If your masking preferences have changed for your child, please send an email to Gloria at gazua@collinscatholicschool.org so we have the most up-to-date information.
The Navarro County Health Department has the Pfitzner Vaccine available for kids 5 and up. Please see the flyer below for more information including the Walk In Clinic on Saturday, November 20th. It will be between 8am to 1pm and they will be offering COVID Shots (MODERNA & Pfizer) as well as flu. There is no cost for the COVID shot, but if people are interested in the flu it's $5 for kids (unless they have insurance: they accept Medicaid, CHIP and Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO only) and $30 for adults. They only accept Cash or Check for payment. They also do walk in Vaccine shots on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8am to 11am and 1pm to 4pm, where they offer school shots, flu shots, and COVID shots.
As of today, we still have had a total of 5 positive cases. There were no new cases reported this week. If your child is a close contact with an affected individual, you will receive a separate email notifying you of isolation/quarantine protocols. For reasons of privacy and confidentiality, we cannot disclose any personal information related to positive cases or close contacts.
