Student & Parent Newsletter for CCC - March 2023
Lucky to be a Cyclone
Cyclone Families,
Thomas Jefferson said, "I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it." At CCC, our students are working hard to pass industry credentials, gain internship and apprenticeship opportunities and to finish their time at CCC strong. With their hard work and little luck, we know that they will find much success and a fulfilling career.

National Technical Honor Society
Congratulations to Ms. Tennessee on her induction to the National Technical Honor Society. Ms. Tennessee is the first honorary faculty member, selected by her peers, to receive this recognition. She excels in connecting with her students and preparing them for their career. Ms. Tennessee provides hands-on learning in the classroom with opportunities for students to gain confidence and experience within this career field. As seen
here, she is dedicated and committed to serving the community and works with our students to provide free hair care services on a bi-monthly basis. As the student volunteers service each client, Ms. Tennessee guides and directs each student in the appropriate hair technique and ensures each client is satisfied with their style. She goes above and beyond for her students, clients and CCC. Ms. Tennessee believes in her students and believes in the value of their impact in the field of Cosmetology. She embodies what NTHS is all about and we are excited that she is the first CCC honorary faculty member.
Attendance Matters
Attendance at the Chesapeake Career Center is extremely important. Not only does absenteeism negatively impact student learning and skills development. Regular skills development and lab participation allows students to become proficient with equipment and processes that are critical for maximizing learning opportunities. Additionally, class attendance is required so that students may be adequately prepared for industry testing and potential job placement.
Students who miss more than 9 days in any given semester class may lose credit for that class due to excessive absences, regardless of whether the absences were excused or not.
Your child's attendance is posted in ParentVue. A letter alerting you to a potential loss of credit is posted in ParentVue when your child reaches 6, 9, and 10 absences in each class. This is your official notification of excessive absences, so please check ParentVue often to monitor your student's attendance.
If a student must be absent, please email or bring a note to our attendance secretary (nancy .manning@cpschools.com) so we can code the absence appropriately.
The Chesapeake School Board has defined an excused absence to include any of the following: Sickness of a student, medical appointments, severe illness or death in the family, exposure to contagious disease, religious holidays, or extenuating circumstances such as fire, accident, or extremely inclement weather. Absences other than those listed above will be recorded as unexcused absences.
---------------------------------------
Our Counseling Director, Ms. Brinkley, is available to students by appointment or email. Please stop by the main office, call 547-0134, or email
larhonda.brinkley@cpschools.com for assistance.
