Coming Soon! Veteran's Day Program 2018. Please remind students to bring in their participation forms.
Our program will take place from 12:45-2:00 on Friday, November 9.
Classroom activities will take place from 12:45-1:40.
I suggest that teachers have activities where our guests could engage in small group or table top activities. Veterans have been encouraged to bring a photo or item of interest to share with the students.
Resources are also available in our google docs file.
At approx. 1:40, an announcement will be made asking the veterans to make their way to the gym. At that time, we ask that you line your students up in the hallway with their flags.
Once the parade has passed down your hallway, any child who is leaving with a veteran must go to the main hallway to meet up with their guest. Only send those who have prior written permission.
Our program will conclude at 2:00 pm.

Staffing Updates
I wanted to update you on some changes to the special education services here at South.
A huge shout out to Dr. Shafer for giving Kelly Lacey and I the green light to bring another special education teacher on board. We quickly learned that we put Jamie Craddock into a no-win situation by trying to have her provide services for a population of high needs students across two buildings. Sadly, Jamie will be moving to the Middle School full time.
I am happy to share that Michele Burkett, a special education teacher, will be joining our South family. Michele has been filling a leave position at the Middle School this Fall. I want to thank Marsha Webster, principal of the Middle School, for allowing Michele to start over here right away and filling that leave with a sub. Our current plan is for Michele to begin on Wednesday, Nov. 7th. This will give Jamie some time to inform her students of the change.
After reviewing the schedule and case load, we feel we will best serve our students if we split the caseloads and have Stacey serve as teacher of record and service for our third graders. Michele will then serve as teacher of record and service for our fourth graders. We are currently in the process of plotting out their schedules and will be communicating those details soon.
In order for Michele to get up to speed on the students she will be servicing and to get the schedule worked out, Stacey and Michele will take some time to meet Wednesday morning on Michele's first day. This will impact your class if you normally have Stacey in your room in the morning.
Stacey, Michele and Kelly Lacey will also work on communicating this change to parents and sharing Michele's contact information with them.
As always, let me know what questions or concerns you might have.
