PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hello CV Family,
Here we are at the halfway point of the first quarter! Our performances, athletics, and busy campus are in full swing. I have way too much to share, but it is important information. In addition, I want to encourage all our students and parents to pay close attention to the next few weeks academically. The workload and expectations have steadily risen, and students typically find this time of year challenging. Check-in with your student and their teachers. These next four weeks are already starting to go fast. We are here to work together, so please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Typically, I will highlight important information that is contained within the newsletter or information I want to personally share with our school community in the format of Three Dots from Mr. Dumas (I had to add a couple of extra dots this week!):
Fall Intersession: Students failing in core areas (Math, ELA, Biology) at the progress report time should see outreach from GPS’s Office of Federal Programs. This outreach will outline an opportunity, should their grades remain unsatisfactory, to attend a one-week session during the second week of Fall Break. Students selected to participate in this program will be required to attend five 90-minute sessions for each area they have failed, a maximum of two sessions. Students who attend all five days and complete required coursework will receive grade enhancement (current class grade will be brought up to a passing average of 60%). The Office of Federal Programs will reach out to families who are in line to qualify for the program next week. Courses eligible for this opportunity are: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and/or Intermediate Algebra, ELA 9-12, and Biology. Once information has been sent to parents we will have a team that follows up with students and their progress throughout the remainder of the quarter.
Progress Reports: Progress reports for the halfway mark of the first quarter are available. Please log into Infinite Campus to review your student’s progress. Please know that this is a check-in for student progress and should be viewed as a means to assess how things are going thus far. Our teachers have scheduled tutoring opportunities that can be of benefit as well as other opportunities for student to student tutoring on our campus. I encourage you to reach out to your student’s teacher with any questions or concerns you may have at this time.
Coyote Time: Coyote Time is built into your child’s schedule on Wednesdays. This time serves multiple purposes. It has been utilized to share some of our beginning-of-the-year procedural processes, such as statements of awareness; we have also used it to help students with organizational and time management skills, developing a growth mindset, as well as delivering content that we would typically have to interrupt the school day to deliver through special schedules. In feedback from the CVHS Site Council, we began sharing the upcoming topics with you in case you were interested in what we are sharing. A Coyote Time segment of the newsletter briefly addresses upcoming Coyote Time presentations.
Speaking of Coyote Time, our annual SOS (Signs of Suicide) presentation is this month. Content and information are shared below as well as a detailed email that went out earlier this week.
COGNIA Parent Survey: CVHS COGNIA Parent Survey As was mentioned in the last Coyote Howl Newsletter, Campo Verde High School is starting the continuous improvement process through Cognia. Part of the process is to seek your input as parents, students, and community members. Your input is vital, and your feedback will help drive the process. It takes less than 5 minutes to complete the survey and is mobile-friendly! It is essential to our work. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support!
CVHS Site Council: We are again looking for parents and community members to form our site council. If you want to serve on the site council, please use the following link to nominate yourself as a potential committee member. The site council comprises representatives from the Campo Verde community. The council meets with the Principal and other school staff monthly during the school year to discuss various topics, share information and broaden understanding of school-related issues. Members work together to:
Advance the action steps of Campo Verde’s Continuous Improvement Plan.
Ensure effective involvement of parents and community to support the partnership between school and community stakeholders.
Involve parents and the community in an organized and timely manner with the planning, review, and implementation of programs and policies of Campo Verde and Gilbert Public Schools.
The role of a Site Council member is to:
Attend the monthly Site Council meetings.
Meeting dates: 9/13, 10/25, 11/29, 1/24, 2/21, & 4/24
Time: 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Location: Initial Meeting will be in the Library with the remaining meetings being held in Room 113 Student Services (front office)
Provide information to parents and the community regarding school issues.
Bring questions, concerns, and ideas to the attention of school staff, administration, and other school community stakeholders.
Provide the Principal with feedback and insight from the parent’s perspective on the school processes, policies, and initiatives to ensure that the needs of parents and their families are included as decisions are made in the school.
Recruit parents for involvement in professional development opportunities, meetings, conferences, and other related activities designed to enhance parents' role in supporting their children's education and advancing their own educational needs.
Review and recommend how the school’s budget can be best utilized to support the needs of all Campo Verde students.
We appreciate your continued support!
Best regards,
Mr. Tyler Dumas

Reminder - Please Complete the 2023/2024 Annual Update
https://www.gilbertschools.net/annualupdate
It is extremely important that all GPS families complete the online 'Annual Update' in Infinite Campus every year. Even if your information has not changed you must still complete the 2023/2024 Annual Update so we can ensure we have the most accurate information for your student in the case of an emergency. The information you provide is used by the district and your school to directly communicate with you regarding your student, or in the event of an emergency on campus. Please log into your Infinite Campus Parent Portal and complete the 'Annual Update' today!
There is a new and improved way for our parents and guardians to report student absences. This new feature is quick and easy to use and can be accessed through your Infinite Campus Parent Portal or through your Infinite Campus app. Simply log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal and click on the ‘Submit Absence Requests’ graphic. Please note you will still be able to email attendance or call in and leave a message on our school’s attendance phone line if you would prefer. TRAFFIC FLOW
2. Park in designated parking spaces when:
a) unloading large items from your vehicle
b) changing drivers
3. Watch for students walking between vehicles.
4. Do NOT drop off students on the roadway or curb.
5. Lastly, after school starts, we will lock the gates to the west parking lot which will make the west lot inaccessible off Germann Road and Coyote Drive during school hours. We will unlock the gates before the end of the school day so students can exit to Germann Road and Coyote Drive.
Traffic Pattern update: We have added an extra exit from the West end parking lot. In addition to the stoplight exit, cars can now exit through the dirt lot onto Germann. Please be aware that cars will only be allowed to turn right when leaving the dirt lot. If your desire is to turn Left onto Germann, you should continue to use the exit at the stoplight.
Safety reminder: Students should not exit their vehicles unless they are in a specified drop-off location. Fire lanes are NOT drop off locations.
This adjustment will allow us to provide concentrated oversight by our safety and security staff to provide better coverage throughout the entire campus. While this change will not impact the vast majority of our parents, students, and staff on a daily basis, at some point it will be impactful when you need to drop off or pick up outside of your normal schedule.
We appreciate your support!

Freshman Family Meetings
Dear Freshmen Families,
We would like to welcome our Freshmen Coyotes to the Campo Verde High School family!
School counselors work to address students' academic, career, and social-emotional development ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow. CVHS Counselors are assigned to students by an alphabet split of last names, please see your student’s assigned counselor below.
The transition from middle school to high school can be challenging (lots of questions, planning out classes, making new friends, where do I fit in?). High school years are full of growth, promise, excitement, frustration, disappointment, and hope. It is the time when students begin to discover what the future holds for them. Our goal is to make that transition a little less stressful. We would like to meet with YOU and YOUR STUDENT for a 30-minute, individual Freshman Family Meeting in person. During this time we will discuss your student’s four-year plan and goals. The counselor can answer any other questions you may have. If you are unable to attend, we would still like to meet with your child.
Follow this link to a brief video explaining the process. FRESHMAN FAMILY MEETING INTRO
Freshmen Next Steps:
SIGN UP for a meeting date and time below through Calendly with your assigned counselor. If you cannot attend with your student, please sign your child up for an appointment so we can create a four year plan. We will share the plan with you after the meeting via email.
Complete this form with your student Freshman Family Meeting PREP
We look forward to meeting you and we are excited to work with you and your child throughout the next four years!
PLEASE NOTE: These available time slots are for Freshmen Family Meetings Only.

Seniors
Counselors recently met with seniors during their English classes to review their credits and to make sure everything is on track for graduation. Take a look at our Senior Checklist for important information.
Graduation Tracker
The Graduation Tracker in Infinite Campus is a very useful tool for parents and students to see if students are on track for graduation. You can see what credits have been earned, what credits are planned out for the future and what credits still need to be planned for. As students enter their classes into the Academic Planner, the classes will filter into the Graduation Tracker. Freshmen who do not yet have their 4 year plan completed will have the opportunity to sign up to do this with their counselor in the next couple of weeks. To access the Grad Tracker, login to Infinite Campus and scroll down to “District Announcements.” Find the Graduation Tracker picture and click on the image.
Summer School
Students who are still finishing online summer school courses MUST have their classes completed by their end date. This means that assignments, the final exam and the final grade for the class must be posted by this date. No extensions will be granted for summer school classes. Please have students check their buzz accounts for their class end dates.
Global Academy Final Exams
Students who have requested clearance from their online teacher and are ready to take their final exam for an online Global Academy course should report to a CFS teacher/room during a CFS time slot. The CFS teacher will provide the password and proctor your exam.
*Remember to request your final grade once you have completed all parts of your class and be sure to review your transcript to ensure the grade has been posted. Please allow 1 week for the grade to post.
Enroll in Global Academy Online Classes as a Concurrent Student
Students wishing to take an online class through Global Academy during the school year need to follow the directions to register as a concurrently enrolled student. Please note that Global Academy begins classes every two weeks. Students will have to pay a fee if they are taking more than 6 classes through the district. Start the enrollment process Here.
MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS
At Campo Verde High School we value the social and emotional well being of our students and surrounding community. During the week of September 11th - September 15th our campus will be recognizing Suicide Awareness Week. Our Behavioral Health Team, counselors, and student groups will be providing activities and resources throughout the week to promote our continued focus on wellness here at Campo Verde High School.
As part of Gilbert Public Schools’ (GPS) commitment to prevention education, we will be offering depression awareness and suicide prevention training as part of the SOS (Signs of Suicide) Prevention Program. The program helps students and adults demystify the confusion around what constitutes normal development and what may be a potentially serious issue.
On Wednesday, September 13th, students will view the SOS video during their Coyote Time class. Please review the attached form for further details on the program. If you do not wish for your child to participate, please complete the attached Opt Out Form and return it to our front office no later than Monday, September 11th. If we do not hear from you, we will assume your child has permission to participate.
We invite you to take the opportunity to have conversations with your student(s) about mental health and who they can rely upon for support should they ever deal with suicidal ideation. Please visit our CVHS Wellness Resources website for tips on conversation starters and resources available in our community.
Thank you for your continued support of Campo Verde High School!

YEARBOOK
Class of 2024!
The first step of your senior journey is to have your portrait taken for the yearbook. The yearbook's deadline for senior pictures is November 22nd. In order to meet this deadline, we have partnered with Southwest Portraits in Tempe, AZ to take your yearbook photos.
There are two options: Please read through this letter completely for details and choose the option that works best for you.
OPTION 1
Schedule an online appointment with Southwest Portraits to have your portrait taken at their Tempe studio located at 5450 S Lakeshore Dr. Suite 108, Tempe, AZ 85283 before the September deadline.
Key Information about Option 1: Final scheduling date for studio session BEFORE November 22nd to meet the yearbook deadline.
- Senior Portraits can be taken at the Southwest Photography Studio by calling 480-222-1199 to set an appointment. We had an error with the mailers, however, appointments can still be made by calling.
- It is recommended that Seniors bring their own clothing. However, if necessary, the studio will provide loaner jackets, ties, and drapes as needed.
- All studio services beyond the sitting (scheduling, ordering pictures, and paying fees) will be conducted online.
- The Yearbook portrait sessions will include 9-14 headshots on blue/brown tone background to select one for the yearbook.
- A deluxe session is offered with up to three outfits, including the yearbook outfit, inside and outside in each outfit.
- Portraits will be shown immediately after the session for the students/parents to choose the yearbook portrait and see available options (choosing the yearbook pose, ordering photos, and any additional payment.)
OPTION 2
The final chance to take photos on campus is September 6th in the auditorium lobby. This is also our re-take/makeup day.
Key Information about Option 2:
- A limited number of poses will be taken on the yearbook background only.
- Students must be dressed to impress (collared shirt, tie, dress, and/or professional blouse) for their senior portrait.
- Senior photos taken on campus will be your student ID photo.
Dress Code Note: For both options, students must dress to impress (collared shirt, tie, suit jacket, dress, and/or professional blouse/professional wear). Clothing must be free of logos/signage/text and should not be transparent or too revealing. Headwear is not permitted (except in the case of religious or medical purposes).
Students are required to wear formal attire that would follow the school dress code. Please avoid plunging necklines strapless attire, or spaghetti straps. Darker colors will look best on the senior portrait background.

Our section leaders ran sectionals at South Valley Jr High School on 8/22/23. The Jr High students had a chance to work alongside our talented and fun band leaders, practice their craft, and get a taste of what being in a high school band program is all about. Thanks leaders!
Band Alumni Ross Brotman and Holly Baron are busy working with the South Valley Jr. High School drumline to give them a taste of what high school band has to offer. We have found that exposing these younger students this way gives them a chance to really see how enjoyable the drumline experience can be!

LIBRARY
LIBRARY:
In case you hadn’t heard, our library has been updated and it is more functional and beautiful than ever! The project is nearly complete with a few more pieces on backorder, presentation screens being ordered, and books still being unboxed. However, students are still welcome in the library during the lunch hours, before school, and after school.
Even with all the unpacking, Mrs. Flaherty and Mrs. Jeffers have kept up with promoting reading. Here is one of our displays that shows students about a famous manga that will also have a live action series on Netflix.
Chromebook Information:
If a student is having problems with his/her Chromebook, the place to go is the library. We will put it in for repair and give the student a loaner Chromebook until the original is fixed. Most problems are a simple fix and don’t involve a fee or use of insurance.
Tip: Students should login every morning once on campus and keep the GPS Portal tab open all the time.
Also, We recommend reading the Student Device Handbook.
Digital Citizenship:
Mrs. Flaherty recently taught all AP Seminar classes about research databases. Why use databases? Because ANYBODY can put ANYTHING on the internet. However, databases require a vetting process that will not allow anything in unless it is accurate, reliable, and credible. All students have access to these databases and they are the preferred place to go for academic research. Students can find EBSCOhost databases from their GPS Portal.

TRANSCRIPTS
Transcript Orders Through Parchment
Campo is now using Parchment to order and send out all transcripts. Parchment is a vendor that electronically sends transcripts upon a student's request and is relatively self-service. However, to utilize this option moving forward, all of our students will need to create a free Parchment account. While the account is free, there is a charge if the request is for an official transcript and is paid by the student at the time of ordering.
Parchment uses the highest security standards and the service complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This service is available from approximately 12 a.m. to 11 p.m. Pacific Time.
Please check your student's email inbox for the invite to create your Parchment account.
