Before the MP3 player, she had a walkman that was first for cassette tapes, then for CDs. Cd changers in cars were a big deal. An MP3 player - the idea that you could have a variety of music from lots of artists and not have to buy an entire CD or cassette tape - was crazy to people. There was this thing called Napster, and people were sharing music for free and people were afraid they would go to jail for basically “stealing” music. It was mind-blowing at the time.
