Geography
Botswana is a landlock country located in southern Africa north of South Africa.Botswana occupies an area of 600,370 square kilometers of which 585,000km2 are land A country of south-central Africa. Originally inhabited by the San and later (18th century) by the Tswana, the region became a British protectorate after 1885 and gained full independence in 1966. Gaborone is the capital and the largest city. Population: 1,820,000.
History
Originally home to the indigenous San peoples, they were displaced by migrating Tswana in the 17th century. In 1885, under the urging of Cecil Rhodes, the region became the Bechuanaland Protectorate, held by the British against incursions by Boers and Germans. Independence was achieved in 1966.
