A dessert receives less than 10 to 25 inches of rain per year.
Around one third of the earths surface is covered in deserts.
Only around 20% of deserts are covered in sand.
Areas coverd in ice or snow can sometimes be called cold deserts and area that are dry are called warm deserts.
Deserts also contain large mineral deposits.
Deserts can be good locations to form solar energy.
