Visual Arts Department
The Visual Arts Department is celebrating the beginning of another great school year. We have so much to celebrate following the 2017-2018 school year. We had 22 AP Studio art students spread across 3 Content Areas last year - Drawing, 2-D Design, and Photography. All of our AP students did extremely well on the AP Portfolio submission last year. We had five students score a 5!
This year, our AP numbers have grown so we expect just as much success from our amazing Coyote artists this year!
If you would like to see some examples of the excellent artwork created by our students, stop by the auditorium lobby the next time you are here for a band, choir, orchestra, or dance performance. The Art teachers are working hard to transform that space into a gallery for our student artists to showcase their artwork. We try to rotate the work regularly so every time you come by you should see some fantastic work.

JOHN BURTON: AN ACCOMPLISHED COYOTE CLARINETIST
John Burton, 17, a senior clarinetist at Campo Verde High School Wind Ensemble was accepted to the National Association for Music Education Honor Band of America (NAfME) for a second consecutive year. Burton has also been a member of several other organizations including the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, Youth Symphony of Southwest, Phoenix Youth Symphony, Western International Band Clinic, and The Honor Band of America. Burton attributes his achievements to his parents, brother, his private music teacher Stephanie Gardner, and Band Director, Matt Kozacek.
Burton's musical journey began in 5th grade and since then he has been passionate about achieving his dream of earning a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the Brigham Young University and advancing his musical aspirations by attending the Colburn School in California. Burton's inspiration in the music industry stems from classical music, Broadway musicals, and the work of Ricardo Morales, Principal Clarinetist of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Steve Williamson, Principal Clarinetist with the Chicago Symphony.
Burton believes that having talent is simply not enough if you want to achieve your goals. Instead, he understands that commitment, dedication, and being humble are the core ethical elements that are required to be successful. Burton's message to all aspiring musicians is, "not everything is about the accomplishments, a lot of it is about the experiences and the friends you make along the way." And, understanding that greatness does not happen without missteps along the way, therefore, never quit. Enjoy the journey that will lead you to fulfill your dreams, no matter what they are. Stay focused and humble.
