VETERANS DAY
"Without heroes, we are all plain people, and don't know how far we can go." - Bernard Malamud
Julian Curtiss students and staff welcomed our local heroes and family members to attend our Veteran’s Day Assembly on Monday, November 11th. The following Veterans attended and as you can see we had representation from four branches of the military - Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps.
John L. Vecchiola (US Army) - Father of Mrs. Michelle Salomon (K teacher) and Grandfather of Kate Salomon (2S)
Francisco Garrido (US Air Force) - Father of Manolo Garrido (3R) and Giovanni Garrido (2S)
Thomas Cahill (US Marines) - Grandfather of Clara Cahill (3D)
Richard May (US Army) - Grandfather of Corinne Broderick (4L)
Matt Driskill (US Navy) - Father of Reagan Driskill (1H)
Our students had an opportunity to learn about the meaning of a Veteran and why they are so important to our present lives as well as the freedom we enjoy as United States citizens. Mr. Driskill spoke to the students about why they have choices and how they can take advantage of those choices in life. Students made posters and cards to thank them for their service. Thank you again to all our service members.

FAMILIES AS PARTNERS IN LEARNING
FROM PUZZLE TO PLAN... LEARN HOW TO PARTNER WITH TEACHERS TO SUPPORT YOUR STUDENT'S LEARNING!
When it comes to conference time, and learning how your child is progressing in school, there are a number of puzzle pieces to put together. Teachers bring some of the pieces, and families bring others. All these pieces are important to understanding your child's progress and achievement so you can support learning skills at home.
We are working together with Patti Jomo of Willow Road Consulting to bring you a workshop that will help you, as a parent, be ready to partner with your child's teacher starting with strategies for the upcoming parent-teacher conferences.
