Building a Foundation for Learning
August 14 - 23
Cowboy Families,
WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL! I hope everyone had the BEST summer. I can't wait to hear about all the adventures, trips, fun, and family time our Longs Creek families enjoyed. Everyone up at campus has been working very hard to make sure everything is ready for our students, and we are counting down until the doors open this Thursday for Meet the Teacher, and then on Monday for the first day of school.
Please be sure to read through the entire newsletter, as there is a lot of important information for the upcoming weeks, as well as introductions to some of the new faces around campus.
I am excited to see you all!

Lisa Hastings - ALE Teacher
Hi!!! My name is Lisa Hastings. I am so excited for this new journey to start. This will be my 12th year teaching in NEISD. I have taught Pre-K, Kinder, Second, Third, and PPCD. This year I will be in the ALE classroom.
I am married to my husband, Chris. We have two children, Ryleigh,12, and Lawson, 8.
Emily Hogue - Pre-K Teacher
Hello! My name is Emily Hogue, and as a graduate of NEISD, I am very thankful to be teaching in this community. I graduated from UT with a Bachelors in Elementary Education, and I will be teaching Pre-K here at Longs Creek. When I am not working I love to relax by dancing, painting or reading a good book. I love to be outside in nature, especially anywhere with water. It is my dream to go scuba diving!
I look forward to getting to know the community of Longs Creek, and to work with the future citizens of San Antonio.
Jamie Firgens - Kindergarten Teacher
HOWDY! My name is Jamie Firgens and I am very excited to be joining the Kindergarten team at Longs Creek Elementary. I look forward to learning, exploring, and having fun this new school year.
This will be my 11th year of teaching Kindergarten! My passion is teaching kids how to make connections with letters, sounds, and words to become life-long readers. I love how Kindergarten students are eager to explore and engage in learning experiences.
I grew up in East Texas and I attended college at Stephen F. Austin where I received my B.S. in Interdisciplinary studies, with a specialization in Early Childhood. After teaching a year in Midlothian ISD, I was offered a Director of Education role at Sylvan Learning Center in San Antonio. At Sylvan, I worked with all levels of students from Pre-K to college. After 15 years and various positions at Sylvan, I left to go back to the classroom. I taught 9 years for NISD. This year I am excited to be a new team member of the NEISD! This is where my heart is!
This summer I celebrated 15 years of marriage to my husband who is a product of NEISD, and our two fabulous kids, 8th grader and 5th grader, who are also NEISD students! I am overjoyed to be a part of such an amazing district, staff, and community!
Besides spending all my free time with my family, I love to read, watch movies, and travel.
I look forward to a great year working with r amazing children, and instilling a passion for learning!

meet the teacher
TIME: 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
THINGS TO KNOW: This is a great time to meet your child's teacher, drop off your school supplies, and alleviate some of the first day jitters. Take some time to look around the school, see familiar faces, and begin to make new friends.
We want to make the beginning of the school year as easy as possible for you, so you will also have the opportunity to add funds to your child's lunch account, get information on KIN (after school program), sign up for PTA, sign up to volunteer for school activities, get information on Watch D.O.G.S, drop off medications with our nurse, purchase t-shirts, water bottles, and other Longs Creek swag, and more!
Procedures & Routines
BUZZER SYSTEM:
All campuses in NEISD are equipped with a buzzer sytem at the front door that allows us to closely monitor visitors. Each day at 8:05, the doors will be locked, and all visitors will need to press the buzzer. The front office will ask to see an ID before allowing anyone into the building. There are no exceptions to this, and we thank you in advance for helping us ensure the safety of our students.
MORNING INFORMATION:
- The cafeteria is open for breakfast from 7:15 - 7:50. Please do not drop off students prior to 7:15, as we are not adequately staffed to supervise them until that time.
- Students who arrive after 8:05 MUST BE WALKED INTO SCHOOL WITH AN ADULT.
- All car riders should be dropped off in the BACK parking lot and enter through the cafeteria.
- Carpool and daycare riders should drop off and pick-up in the front.
AFTERNOON DISMISSAL:
- The front lot is for picking up our daycare and for carpool (3+) students. Bike riders will also be dismissed out the front of the building.
- The back lot is used for walkers, car riders, and bus riders.
- All vehicles must have a bright yellow car rider sign to pick up students. See your child's teacher or the front office if you need a sign.
REMINDERS:
- Please use the crosswalks when crossing the streets and parking lots to esure your safety and the safety of our students.
- San Antonio is a Hands Free Zone, so please do not use your phone when driving through the drop-off and pick-up lines.
- Please adhere to handicap parking laws and leave those spaces available.
SCHOOL HOURS:
- 7:15 Supervision begins
- 7:15 - 7:50 Breakfast
- 8:00 School begins
- 8:05 Tardy Bell (Must walk students into the building)
- 3:15 School ends
STUDENT SIGN OUT:
If you need to sign-out your child early, please do so before 3:00. After this time we are in transition as we prepare for dismissal.
CHANGE IN DISMISSAL:
Please make sure you email your child's teacher or send a written note if there will be a change in dismissal plans for your child. If we do not have this in writing, your child will be sent home the way he or she normally goes home.

Meals for Shields
North East ISD is launching a new program that offers a free lunch to area officers visiting a District elementary school. The Meals for Shields program will provide a free, nutritious meal to any officer who is willing to sit down and eat lunch with students.
North East ISD Chief of Police Wallace McCampbell says this program is designed to help improve community relations. “We want to show the kids that the officers are their friends,” said McCampbell. “We want to make them safe and we want them to be able to come to us when they have a question or a problem.”
If an officer wants to participate they must be in uniform when they check in at the front office. After that, they will head to the cafeteria where they will enter the lunch line with the students and eat together.
