Principal's Corner
Hello Eagle Families,
This week, we celebrate the hardworking educators at Meadow Park. Staff appreciation falls during the first week of May every year. This year feels significantly different when we can’t celebrate together with them. If you have seen one of our teachers or staff members do something extra for your child, now is a great time to send a note of thanks and recognize them for what they have done and continue to do.
I know that many of our staff are going the extra mile to work with students during remote learning. This has been a major shift, and I’ve been impressed at the speed with which our staff has made dramatic adjustments to their teaching. I’ve also watched our classified staff look for opportunities to support our community at every turn. It’s been amazing to see our staff continue building a culture of care for students even in difficult circumstances. I hope you have seen (and felt) the same. It just happens that this coming week is a great time to recognize that. I hope you will join me in doing so.
Make it a great week!
Jared Freeman
Principal

PARK Expectations
As we engage in this new format for learning away from school, we are asking that students AND parents/guardians, together, review our PARK Expectations - focused on remote learning. We want to remind students that we are still participating in school and we expect that they will stay Positive, Aware, Responsible, and Kind, just as they would when they are with us at school. Please let your child know that there is an assignment to complete in CANVAS. They will review the PARK Remote Learning Expectations and submit an assignment recognizing and acknowledging that they understand these expectations. Thank you for your support in helping us to create a positive community for all of our learners at Meadow Park.

Grade Reporting - BSD Synergy Updates
The Oregon Department of Education recently directed all secondary schools (grades 6-12) in Oregon to report class grades using only a Pass or Incomplete scale. As a result, BSD has updated our processes so that any class grade on any transcript for the Spring of 2020 will be displayed as a Pass or Incomplete. The Pass indicates credit earned while the Incomplete communicates that additional evidence of learning is required for the credit. Neither mark has an impact on students’ Grade Point Average (GPA).
In addition, beginning Monday May 4, 2020, all grades displayed in the Synergy gradebook will be calculated using only the Pass or Incomplete Scale. Teachers will continue to provide feedback on assignments using written, verbal, and numerical methods. Teachers will use the standard rubric scores (1-8) for numeric feedback. However, all overall (calculated) grades will be displayed as Pass or Incomplete. The minimum threshold for a Pass is 1.6 on the 1-4 scale and 2.0 on the 1-8 (International Baccalaureate) scale.
Friday's Wellness Minute
Mr. Engel presents this week's 6th Grade Wellness Minute Episode 4
Ms. Caballero presents this week's 7th Grade Wellness Minute Episode 4
Mrs. Brownell presents this week's 8th Grade Wellness Minute Episode 4
Each week our counseling team will be sending out a Wellness Minute. We are asking all of our students to engage in the Wellness Minute on Fridays. These slide decks will also be posted on our school wide, grade level CANVAS page (6th), (7th), and (8th). It will be pushed out as an assignment each Friday morning.

Schools are Closed/Trespassing
As per Governor Brown’s direction all schools are closed for the remainder of the school year. Community members continue to gather on school property – in parking lots, fields, and stadiums – and this is trespassing. District Administrators may contact law enforcement and report trespassers as needed. Approved events where community may come to schools include Wi-Fi access for families, Chromebook distribution, and other school led events.
Dear Meadow Park Parents and Guardians...
It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of this program is to make walking and biking to school safe, convenient and fun.
Parent’s and guardian’s input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads.
The following link was generated from the National Safe Routes to School Center and will be used to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district
The school’s survey will be open for responses until May 31. We appreciate your help in giving us information to make our program effective for all Beaverton School District students.
