We must show courage when faced with obstacles
The theme, we must show courage when faced with obstacles, is shown throughout The Diary of Anne Frank. Anne shows courage when her family goes into hiding. In her diary, she says,”It's the silence in the nights that frightens me the most”(381). This shows courage because although Anne is scared she continues on. Another example of courage is Mr.Kraler and Miep helping the families in the annex. Anne writes, “ if the Nazis found out they were hiding us…they would suffer the same fate that we would”(381). Kraler and Miep show courage because they do not have to help and be in harms way but they do it because it is the right thing to do. The final example of courage in The Diary of Anne Frank is when they are found by the Green Police. The play reads” She is no longer a child but a women with courage to meet whatever lies ahead”(433). This shows that Anne has courage when faced with obstacles.
We must show hope to get through it
The theme even through hard times you need hope to get through it , is shown throughout The Diary of Anne Frank. Anne shows hope for the future when she says “ peace in nineteen forty-four”(413). This shows hope because she is hoping for the war to end. Also for peace to come in nineteen forty-four. Another example of hope is Miep saying “ Well, it has to come sometime, you know”(413). Miep says this because she has hope that the war will end sometime soon. The final example of hope is when Miep says “ did you hear that everybody? Did you hear what I said? The invasion has begun! The invasion!” (427). The radio was on and Anne heard that people were coming to save them. This shows that Anne has hope when in hard times.
Mrs. Van Pels
The fur coat represents Mrs. Van Pels because she is high maintenance and expensive. An example of her being expensive is when she says " He always bought the best that money could buy"(385). She is talking about her dad getting an expensive fur coat for her. She loves her fur coat. She got it from him right before he died. Another example is when Anne spills milk on the coat " my beautiful coat my father gave me " (388). She was very mad. The final example of Mrs. Van Pels being high maintenance and expensive is when Mrs. Van Pels is really mad at Anne because of what she did to the fur coat. " I could kill you for this. I could just kill you!" (388). This shows that Mrs. Van Pels can be high maintenance and expensive.
