Classroom Happenings
Wonders
This week our class focused on the shapes they see in nature and in our neighborhood. Children read about the shapes they see around them.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.
Word Workout
- Vocabulary: materials, nature Invite your child to hunt for shapes found in nature or on materials. Then invite your child to draw pictures of each item.
- My Words to Know
High-Frequency Word: like Write the word like on paper and have your child trace it. Then say sentences and have your child write like each time you say the word.
Category Words: shapes Say simple riddles that include different shape words. Have your child guess each object.
Phonics: t Invite your child to play a game of “I Spy.” Say sentences and have your child find objects whose names begin or end with the letter t, such as I spy a table. I spy a pot.
Daily Five
We have built our reading stamina to 20 minutes for Read To Self, Read to Someone, Writing, Listen to Reading and Word Work. We are now working in reading groups too.
Math Everyday
We finished our numbers thru 10. Next week we will work with a number board to reinforce counting skills and visualize "one more." We will invent and solve different types of number stories using various strategies.
Science
This week in science, we continued our discussion about our senses. Next week we will looking at nature up close through a magnifying glass!
Important Information
-Halloween Party went great!! Thank you for all of your help and support!!
-We are having a penny drive to raise money for our troops. I have a container in the classroom for collecting pennies!!
