Chalmers Celebrates Young Poets

Two students from Chalmers Elementary are soon to be published authors in the 2017 edition of the Young American Poetry Digest. Ms. Ashley Essary, 4th grade writing teacher, submitted student poetry pieces to the National School Project, which is designed to share the talent of our youth with others and provide publishing opportunities for young poets.

The poems of fourth grade students Deā€™Marcus Dunn and Sydney McFarlane were selected for publication in the 2017 edition of the Young American Poetry Digest by a panel within the organization. The panel consists of educators who select only the best poems submitted, poems that are especially well written for the age level of the student.

A free book will be provided to the Chalmers library for current and future students to enjoy. More information regarding the project can be found at www.youngpoets.org.

Annual Edison Carnival

The staff at Edison hosted another awesome carvival for the students to enjoy Thursday evening. Thank you to Police Officer Green, the GHS National Honor Society, and the GHS Theater students for volunteering for the event.

Shattered Dreams

Thank you to Gainesville Fire and Rescue, Gainesville PD, and the GHS Student Council for the shocking and realistic dramatization of a drunk-driving accident in the annual Shattered Dreams program. As our students prepare for the prom this weekend, the Shattered Dreams program is a reminder to our students to remain safe, drive smart, and be responsible this weekend and always.
