3rd-5th Grade M-Step
It is very important that all families read the NPS State Assessment Electronic Device Use Policy. This policy is required to be shared with all staff, students and families regarding the use of any electronic devices during state spring testing. Please review this document carefully.
Here are some important documents for families to review before testing begins:
State Superintendent Parent Letter
What Parents Should Know About AssessmentsWhat Parents Can Do to Help Students Prepare
Devices~ Students may not have any devices in the classroom during a testing session. To ensure that the testing environment is device free on testing days, we recommend that students do not bring devices to school on testing days. Any devices brought to school will either stay in student backpacks in the hallway, or will be collected during the testing session. Examples of electronic devices include, but are not limited to:
smart phones and cell phones
any electronic device that can be used to record, transmit, or receive information not used for testing
computer tablets, iPads, e-readers (for example: Kindle)
smart watches (for example: Fitbits; Apple, Garmin, Samsung watches; any watch with access to other applications or the internet)
Bluetooth headphones, smart earbuds (for example: Beats, iPods), or any headphone with access to other applications or the internet)
Headphones~ Headphones are required for each assessment at all grade levels. For most assessments, headphones are only needed for the text to speech directions. ELA is the only assessment that requires the use of headphones after the directions. Teachers will be provided with a set of headphones for every student. If your child prefers to bring headphones from home, there are restrictions from the state of Michigan about the type of headphones allowed. According to the state device policy, "Bluetooth headphones, smart earbuds (for example AirPods, Beats) or any headphones with access to other applications or the internet are not allowed in testing rooms".

Election Day: May 2, 2023
The Silver Springs PTA wants to make sure you save the date for this important election. The only issue on the ballot is the 2023 bond for Northville Public Schools.
The proposal is for zero increase to the current debt millage rate, so residents’ taxes will not go up. The bond proposal focuses on program enhancements, technology upgrades, and infrastructure upgrades to make comparable opportunities for all students in our district.

DONATE NEW & GENTLY USED BOOKS
The Silver Springs PTA and our awesome librarian, Ms. Meisel, are collecting new and gently used books for the brand-new Silver Springs Book Giveaway Program. Throughout the year, these books will be given away to Silver Springs students to help support reading at home. You can drop off any new or gently used, K-5 reading level, age-appropriate books to the office or library. Thank you!
BIRTHDAY LUNCHES
The Birthday Lunch program is a fun way to celebrate your child’s special day and the funds raised from this program directly benefit PTA programs. Win-win!
To sign up and select your date, parents may submit a request form and a donation (any amount) to the PTA. Or, it’s even easier to sign up and donate online.
On your child’s day, you can come and join them for lunch! Some parents choose to bring a special lunch or a treat.
You get to sit at the Birthday Lunch table near the MPR, which will be decorated with a tablecloth and birthday napkins.
🗓 Please sign up for this program at least two weeks in advance!
✅ Book as soon as possible to get your spot, even if your requested date is later in the year. The schedule fills up fast!
☎️ Also, if you need to cancel due to illness, etc., please notify Kate Rundell at silverspringspta@gmail.com. Our volunteers arrange their schedule to be there and it’s very frustrating to have a no-show.

LEADER IN ME FOCUS FOR THE MONTH - HABIT 6 Synergize
We will focus on Habit 6 throughout the entire month of March. Please make sure that you are teaching your students about Habit 6 and incorporating activities to enhance and build upon their knowledge. I encourage you to visit the Leader in Me Website for activities!
The Learning At Home Activity is below. This will go home in Monday envelopes and as well as in the Eagle Express. It would be great if you could mention it to your students!
April At Home Activity
This month’s Habit: Habit 6: Synergize
Activity: See the variety of ideas below
Due Date: April 29th
Habit #6: Synergize
What this means: Working together is better. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
“I get along well with other people and work well in groups.”
“I value the strengths of others and allow myself to learn from them.”
“I know that working together as a team we can get more done and come up with better solutions than we could alone.”
“I seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems.”
How can I do this in my life?
With your children, choose a problem you may have (like curfew or completing tasks). Use the Synergy Action Plan to summarize your child's solution and your solution: (1) define the problem, (2) share your views, (3) think of solutions, (4) choose the best solution together. See if you can reach a better solution (The High Way) than either of you could come up with alone.
