Scientific Revolution
kennedi j. period 6
What was the change?
The Scientific revolution was a change in European thought that was "based upon careful observation and a willingness to question accepted beliefs" meaning many wanted to try and test these beliefs in order to find proof based on observations.
Who were the people associated with the change?
Galileo
Galileo Galilei was an Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer and philosopher. He became famous for his Law of Pendulum after watching a lamp swing back and forth in a cathedral. He later became a tutor in mathematics for a living.
Copernicus
Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish cleric and astronomer. He formulated a heliocentric model of the universe that placed the sun at the center.Copernicus proved that the earth was not flat and that the sun, earth and moon were not driven by wheels.
Johannes Kepler
Johannes Kepler was a mathematician. He was best known for his laws of planetary motion. He wrote many books such as "Epitome Astronomiae","Astronomia Pars Optica",and "Harmonices Mundi" in which he describes his third law.
Isaac Newton
Sir Isaac Newton was the man who discovered the now used Laws of Gravity. Not only that,he verifyed Kepler's laws and ended the geocentric view of the universe.Newton also invented the reflecting telescope. Some of his inventions are still used in today's science like the Laws of Motion and the telescope.
How did the change impact society at the time?
change paragraph
The change resulted in discoveries in anatomy, chemistry, mathematics, science, and astronomy. However, this did not go well with people of religion. The church wanted to suppress the idea and condmen the theories. This did not stop these scientists and their bursting of new ideas.
How is that change evidenced in today's modern society?
Most terms like the Scientific Method and Laws of Gravity are still used to prove theories. We also still use the Laws of Planetary Motion thanks to Kepler. With results like that, the Scientific Revolution will change lives forever.
