Centennial's Newsday Tuesday
Centennial Elementary Families' Weekly Newsletter 10/05/2021
A Note from the Principal
I am excited to start this week with you and can hardly believe that we are nearly 1/4 through the school year already!
The Oklahoma Department of Education has released the OSTP scores for students who tested last year in grades 3-12 across our state. I will be sharing much more with you soon to explain how the state department has guided us to interpret our data as well as our next steps in meeting the many needs of our students. Below is a powerful image shared by our EPS Counseling Department called "The Last Normal School Year." It gives context to the changes we are seeing, and also validates that the work we are doing together has never, perhaps ever, been more important in positively impacting children. I am sharing this with you for transparency; we value and covet partnership with all of our wonderful Centennial families to ensure all of our children are given the most valuable and memorable school / childhood experience possible. Our Centennial "Site Growth Plan & Goals" address how we will strategically work to ensure our students continue to achieve and grow to their full potential!
Your student’s state test results will be available in the OSTP Student/Family Portal.
Information provided in the OSTP portal helps you know:
- How your student performed in each key academic area
- Where your student is doing well and where they may need additional support at home and at school
If you have not already set up an account, you will need your student’s 10-digit State ID (STN) number and date of birth. If you have last year’s OSTP results or your child’s report card which can be found in the parent portal on Infinite Campus, the 10-digit State ID (STN) can be found in either of these places. It is labeled State ID
For help with your child's State ID, please contact our office at 405-340-2275.
Please open the attachment below my message to read the Oklahoma Department of Education's "Parent Portal Toolkit" for interpreting these state assessment results. At your parent conferences this week and next, you will have the opportunity to discuss results with your child's current year teacher.
On another note, we have lots to celebrate this week with our TOY (Teacher of the Year) "reveal" and staff celebration this Friday (BIG Congratulations to both nominees, Mrs. Brittany Decker, 3rd Grade, and Mrs. Jennifer Donwerth, 2nd Grade (it truly is an honor to be nominated, especially among such an outstanding pool of excellent teachers)! Next week, I will have more to share about our official Centennial "TOY" (Teacher of the Year)!
Please Send Refillable Water Bottles for Lunch Time
Families, would you please send a refillable water bottle with you student each day? The cafeteria is no longer able to provide disposable paper cups for supplemental water in addition to milk, however students with water bottles will be allowed to refill as needed. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
Finally, we also hope you will join us in celebrating our outstanding Centennial Custodial team this week during "Custodians' Appreciation Week"! We thank our dedicated custodial team: Mr. Larry Schmidt, Ms. Debbie Lutonsky, Mr. Bill Clinton, and Mr. Terry Wilburn! We hope that each of these members of our Centennial family know that WE KNOW that their work is so very critical and appreciated, especially in these times when health and safety have never been more important in our schools. I hope that each of you will join me (and have your students join, too) in honoring these heroes among our Centennial Team this week during "Custodians' Appreciation Week)! Thank you!
It is an honor to serve you and your child at this time in education!
With appreciation and kind regards,
Ellie Webb, Principal
NEW: The School Counselors' Corner! From Anna Robbins & MarRissa Turnbow
“No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace as I have seen in one autumnal face.” - John Donne
Autumn is finally arriving and this quote spoke to me as an educator and a mom. Fall is a favorite for our family, but as students, parents, and educators, we are beginning to “fall” into a routine we intend to maintain for the remainder of the school year. Yet, if we are being honest, we are all starting to feel the pressure of just what that entails. What we knew as “normal” hasn’t returned and we are continuing to be challenged in our approach. What’s incredible is that we are all dedicated to the same goal: Giving our kiddos the best education possible. Our teachers do a phenomenal job of that, and our job as counselors is to partner with our teachers and you to provide social and emotional support while we continue to acclimate to our current normal. The graphic below has been shared all over social media, and even in a recent professional development meeting I attended. I take time to focus on this perspective this month because I believe it is so important to understand as a community that our kiddos, especially our littles (K-2), have yet to experience what we previously knew as a “normal” year. It will take patience and grace as our students reacclimate to being in school every day with a full classroom again. Building classroom stamina and structure is a process, but our Centennial teachers are rocking it! As we move into the final weeks of the first quarter and begin the next, give grace to others and yourself.
At Home: Take time to practice intervals of focused time with your child without a screen. Start with their age (in minutes) then gradually add a minute at a time to strengthen their endurance.
Centennial families, how well do you know Anna Robbins, our full-time counselor for students in grades 3-5? Please click here or on the link below this box to watch Anna's FlipGrid introduction and get to know Anna better!

In Case of Absence
Families, did you know that you may call 405-726-4699 any time to leave a message regarding your student's need to be absent or tardy? We encourage this so the phone lines aren’t tied up in the morning during AM drop off. If a family accidentally forgets to call on when a student is absent, an automated call goes out at 10:30 to families who have not yet reported their child is absent as a reminder. Thank you!
