Fourth Grade Parkside Elementary

Literacy/Reading

This week starts our EOG review. We will be working through our practice EOG booklet in class daily and learning strategies to tackle passages and questions. This week is reading and comparing two passages and answering the questions to them. We'll analyze the questions to see which passage and paragraph it is specifically looking at. We'll eliminate answers and pick the best possible one with proof from the text.

Cycle 4 test and test correction sheets have been sent home. They are due completed on Friday, April 15th.

Math

This week in Math we will be finishing up our unit on Fractions. We will be adding and subtracting fractions including improper fractions and mixed numbers. We will also be continuing to compare and order fractions using cross multiplication and logical reasoning. Your child will be taking their Fraction unit test on Friday. Knowing your basic multiplication facts is a key to being successful with fractions. Please continue to have your child practice those facts in order to commit them to memory. Furthermore, please remind your student to use the CUBES method while working on their EOG practice problems for homework. Your child has notes on this method in their math notebook. Looking ahead, we will begin a new unit on decimals. This unit will build on our knowledge of fractions.

Science, Social Studies and Health

Students have been studying World Biomes and Ecosystems in Science. We have talked about the Tundra near the North Pole, the Frozen Desert of Antarctica and this week will be about the Amazon Rain Forest. They will be creating a rain forest project at the end of the week.

In Social Studies we are discussing government. Students learned about the three branches of government and what each branch is responsible for accomplishing. We will be watching a Discovery Education video about how the checks and balances systems works.

Field Trip!!

Our field trip will be here before you know it! Look for an informational sheet to come home this week. We can't wait to enjoy the mountains and caverns!

Did you hear...??
