Middle & High Sessions
GeoGEBRA - session facilitator, Chris Beyerle - 9:00 to 11:00 am
This workshop is design for high school teachers 9-12 interested incorporating a free dynamic graphing calculator and geometry software program called Geogebra. While other interactive software (e.g. Cabri Geometry, Geometer's Sketchpad) focus on dynamic manipulations of geometrical objects, the idea behind GeoGebra is to connect geometric, algebraic, and numeric representations in an interactive way. You can do constructions with points, vectors, lines, conic sections as well as functions and change them dynamically afterwards. Furthermore, GeoGebra allows you to directly enter and manipulate equations and coordinates. Thus you can easily plot functions, work with sliders to investigate parameters, find symbolic derivatives, and use powerful commands like Root or Sequence. Engaging lessons and activities will be offered as they correlate with common core standards.
TI Nspire Revisited - session facilitator, Daniel Wilkie 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
- Morning - TI Nspire Refresher
- Afternoon - TI Nspire Advanced
This workshop is designed for high school mathematics and science teachers in grades 9-12 who wish to learn what the TI Nspire CX calculator can do for your students and what the TI Nspire wireless Navigator can do for you! During the first half of the workshop I will focus my attention on reviewing the basic functions and uses of the Nspire, highlighting the features that make it more user friendly and more student interactive than past TI calculators. This includes, but is not limited to, quickly analyzing graphs, sending and receiving documents, creating lessons and activities, taking tests, quizzes and quick polls. During the second half of the workshop I will be focusing on data collection. We will be using different probes and sensors to collect data. The calculators contain a Vernier program that allows you to plug the sensor directly into the calculator and analyze it instantly. I will finish the workshop with showing you how to find already made Common Core lessons for any class and any topic on the TI website, lessons that are free and changeable to fit your class.
Elementary Session - Grades 3-5 - 9:00 to 11:00 am
This workshop is designed for elementary teachers in grades 3-5 who are interested in incorporating calculator technology into math lessons in a meaningful way. Engaging lessons and activities correlated to Common Core Standards will be shared. Participants will discover how using calculators can help children develop number sense and mathematical ideas and understand connections, relationships, and patterns. Teachers using calculators have the opportunity to expand teaching possibilities in their classroom to enhance student learning.
