Summer 2018

Summertime..and the livin' is easy!

Summertime...a time to kick back and relax, go on vacation, and read those books that have been piling up on your bedside table. It can also be a time to plan for your professional learning experiences for the 2018-2019 school year.

In the article, Effective Teacher Professional Development, the authors "define effective PD as structured professional learning that results in changes to teacher practices and improvements in student learning outcomes" (p. 1)

The authors also identify elements of effective professional development based on a rigorous review of studies:

  1. Is content focused
  2. incorporates active learning utilizing adult learning theory
  3. Supports collaboration, typically in job-embedded contexts
  4. Uses models and modeling of effective practice
  5. Provides coaching and expert support
  6. Offers opportunities for feedback and reflection
  7. Is of sustained duration

We are so excited about our plans for professional learning this year!
