Message from the President

Happy Valentine's Day weekend!

I received this weather advisory from Arlington County earlier today. Plan ahead!

RUSH HOUR WEATHER - Arlington Alert

Quick bursts of snow with gusty winds and icy road conditions possible today from 5pm to 11pm. The National Weather Service advises the chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch is likely with untreated roads becoming icy. If possible, individuals are encouraged to adjust their travel plans during this time and reach destinations prior to the anticipated start time.

Please be safe out there, and stay warm!

School will be OPEN on MONDAY!! **

School will be open on Monday, February 15th. Although this is a Federal Holiday, we used this day to give STM the long Christmas break we enjoyed while still meeting the required days of school Those of you who subscribe to the hot lunch program, there WILL BE NO HOT LUNCH ON THIS DAY because the hot lunch provider is closed for the Federal Holiday. Please pack a lunch for your child for Monday the 15th. Extended day will be available.

**At this time, the weather is calling for a 70% possibility of snow or a wintry mix on Monday. On Sunday, the administration will determine if the weather warrants a delay or cancellation of classes. If a schedule change is made, this announcement will be distributed through the Diocesan School Messenger system (email and phone). Please be aware that a delay or closure announcement will not be broadcast over the radio or television. Please see additional information that was sent home today via your child's backpack mail.

STM Band Performance

"My Big Fat Greek Auction!"

SAVE THE DATE: The STM Annual Spring Auction will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the Belle Haven Country Club.

Preparations are already underway, and, as always, we welcome your wholehearted support. Naturally, we’d love to have everyone who has a child, grandchild, or even just a an interest in the overall well-being of our school, to come, have fun, and enjoy themselves to the fullest! In addition, there are also many jobs and roles available -- big or small -- for anyone who might enjoy an opportunity to volunteer to help make this great event a complete success!!!

Whether you are able to lend your time and services or not, however, we do hope you will make plans to join your friends and the whole STM community as participants in this most festive annual occasion. The PTO always does an outstanding job in putting this whole event together, so it promises to be a really great night – and for a really great cause – our school, our community and our kids!

Box Tops Contest Has Begun!

New Box Top Contest has begun! All box tops that you have sent in since November will count toward your class total. Box Tops are due February 26th. This time the grade level with the most box tops per student* will be rewarded with a dress down day. We can only submit box tops that have not expired and all box tops need to be trimmed. We will trim them for you if you don't have time.

Our Fall collection raised about $800 for STM.

* Total number of box tops divided by the number of students in the grade level.

Volunteer Hours

The STM-PTO requests each family to volunteer 20 hours per school year in a wide variety of activities. We know some families are not able to do so and we offer an alternate of paying $300 for the school year instead. Each family is responsible for submitting their hours in the electronic Volunteer Service Hour Log Book via the STM webpage, or by clicking the button below.


In order to be a volunteer within the school (pizza lunch, classroom helper, room parent) or for roles such as scout leader, sports coach, field trip chaperone, etc., you must be VIRTUS Trained. All hopeful volunteers must attend a "Protecting God's Children" session, and then fill out the appropriate background check/paperwork - available via the STM School office. Once the office has record of your session attendance, and the paperwork has been received, you are granted the ability to volunteer in the school. Family-based events (such as the International Festival, Breakfast with Santa and Hot Dog Bash) do not require Virtus Trained volunteers, as the children's parents are onsite. Questions?
