Expectations

We are at the halfway point of the year! Our ties and curriculum are closer to the Middle School than to the Elementary level. We are increasing the rigor and expectations in the 5th grade curriculum.

PowerTeacher has not been correctly showing Parents students' grade here at the Elementary level. I think I have solved the problem for our class. Parents will be able to log in and check on Creek Expectations. I will be making notes on a daily basis. If you are having problems, please let me know.

Valentine's Day Party

We will be having a snack and passing out Valentines on Thursday, February 11th at 2:45 - 3:15. Students like to chat and hang out with their friends, so unstructured is the plan. Here is a list of names for Valentines. We are making bags on Wednesday.

Linus Project - Kindness Counts

We are going to be making Quilt Squares for Project Linus. Project Linus is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization that distributes homemade blankets to children. Just as Charles Schulz’s Linus character from the PEANUTS® comic strip was comforted by his blanket, Project Linus strives to do the same for children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. To learn more about the organization, go to https://www.projectlinus.org.

Math

We are working on our New Unit of Dividing Whole Numbers and Decimals. If your child still needs work on Multiplying Whole Numbers and Decimals, there is work on Think Central assigned specifically for them.
Think Central

This is the online component to our Math Expressions book.

ELA - Grammar Skills

We are having a Grammar Test this week - Wednesday or Thursday on the Parts of Speech. Students have a Green Grammar packet that we will be working from. BrainPOP Videos are a short and sweet way to refresh or to teach these Parts of Speech skills.

BrainPOP

When your child logs into BrainPOP, the login is student bre. Their ordinal number goes between the t and the b. For example, the third student in class would use the login student3bre. The students' password is the student ID number.

Social Studies

In Social Studies, we are learning about the European and the settling of North America. We are starting to learn our Study Skills habits. A-H, as it is affectionately known, is a Study Skills system that helps students learn content. There is not much prior knowledge with our Social Studies curriculum, so A-H helps with the learning. Your child is checking their notes tonight on 5-1 for a Rubric Evaluation tomorrow. I've attached the Study Skills form and the Sample 5-1 that we did together in class.
