WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENTS
Shalom has three snow days built into the 2016-17 calendar. To date, we have used two of those. If we don’t use the third snow day, there will be no school for students Monday, May 8th.
As we approach spring and warmer weather, we are looking for ways to alleviate the difficulties created by warm conditions in the classrooms. The following policies are being put into place:
If the forecast calls for temperatures that "feel like 90 degrees or higher", students will have a dress down day.
If the forecast calls for temperatures that "feel like 95 degrees or higher", Shalom will dismiss at 1:00.
These decisions will be made the evening prior to, or at the latest, 6:00 a.m. on the day of. Families will be notified via the parent alert system. In making these decisions, humidity levels and number of consecutive hot days will be considered.

HELPINGS HANDS – OUR NEW VOLUNTEER INITIATIVE!
Our new Volunteer Campaign, “Helping Hands”, has begun. As you know, Shalom is a community of volunteers that shares a passion for Christian Education. What sets Shalom apart from other schools is our commitment to serve the Shalom community with our talents and skills. Simply put, we need your “Helping Hands!”
Shalom will feature two volunteer testimonials by families twice a year. This will include a small biography on a Shalom family highlighting the volunteer activities they are participating in as well as their history at Shalom. The feature will appear on our website and in our school. Look for these features starting February 20, 2017. Volunteers at events will be wearing our new, branded “Helping Hands” shirts.
How can you help or volunteer? Visit http://shalomca.com/parents/volunteer/ . There you will be able to fill out a volunteer form. Once you fill out the form, we will email you to find the right fit for you. No matter how much time you have to give, there is a need. From ½ a day, to a day a week, a month, or every day we have opportunities to fit the busiest of schedules.
Thank you for your time and talents!

DUTCHFEST NEWS (May 5th & 6th)
Spread the word: Dutchfest is quickly approaching! (May 5-6). One of the ways we advertise is through yard signs. If you put a sign in your yard last year and need new date stickers, please let the office know and we can supply you with them. We can also replace your sign holder if needed.
If you are interested in placing a sign in your yard or place of business, let us know and we can send one home with your child.
We also have posters available from the office.
Gift baskets: In preparation for Dutchfest, we will be collecting any NEW items that you no longer need or want that you have on hand. Examples could be candles, lotions, towels, board games, gift cards, gardening or garage tools, any art and craft items, ribbons, car care items, BBQ items, coffee and teas, kitchen gadgets, etc. Please send the items marked for Dutchfest Baskets. We will be incorporating these items into big beautiful baskets to be auctioned off. Items that we are not able to use will be donated to the 10th grade class yard sale that takes place during Dutchfest.
Thank you so much!
