My Questions

Question: Does locking your door actually keep burglars out of your house?

Sub questions: Is there a certain lock that keeps burglars out? Is there a certain type of wood for a door that can withstand the average weight of a person when they try to beak in? Couldn't burglars just break your window and just go through it?

Sub Question #1: Is there a certain lock that keeps burglars out?

Answer: Yes there are several different kinds of locks. The ANSI (American National Standards Institute) created three grades for door locks so they can identify the quality and durability of lock-sets and deadbolts. They go through tests to see if each grades of locks passes.

Criteria for Knobs: Must withstand 800,000 cycles, 6 door strikes, and 360 pounds.

Criteria for Deadbolts: Must withstand 250,000 cycles, and 10 door strikes (hammer test).

Yes

Sub Question #2: Is there a certain type of wood that can withstand the average weight of a person when they try to break in?

Answer: No there is not a specific type of wood. Most of the wood that are used for doors are Teak, Deodar, Sal, Oak, and Sheesham wood. People also use steel doors with huge deadbolts to make sure no one gets in. They also use objects to scare burglars away such as motion detector lights and security alarms.

Sub Question #3: Couldn't burglars just break your window and go through if they're small enough?

Answer: They could, not unless you take two pieces of glass and squish them together with a vinyl sheet in between them. So when burglars use a baseball bat to break the window, the window will crack, but then they'll still have the other side of the window that's isn't crack yet because of the vinyl sheet. This will take awhile for burglars to break into your house and the more it takes more time, the more the burglar will eventually move on. The pre laminated windows are 2 1/2 to 3 times that of a standard window.
