State of Virginia

Virginia was the 10th state in the United States. It is the 35th largest state and is the 12th most populated state.

Virginia was the capital state of the confederacy during the Civil War. In 1950, desegregation began in Virginia when the first Black student was admitted to law school at the University of Virginia.

Many famous people were born in Virginia including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and Woodrow Wilson. Eight presidents in all were born there.

Many different kinds of crops are grown in Virginia including tobacco, peanuts, corn, and sweet potatoes. They also raise poultry and pork.

Virginia's weather has been described as "Goldilock's Climate" which means it's not too hot and not too cold. The east side of the state borders the Atlantic Ocean and it borders 5 other states plus Washington, D.C. It has many rivers and has the Blue Ridge Mountains. In one area you can ski in the mountains and golf in the valley, both on the same day.

One thing that is special to me about Virginia is that my dad grew up here in Fairfax County.
