Fifth Grade News
Welcome to the fifth grade cafe!
Great job, 5th and 6th grade Chorus!
This week in writing we discussed the difference between personal narratives and memoirs. At the close of this discussion we began to brainstorm themes that could tie our stories together. When students had settled on a theme they began to write.
In reading, we continued our nonfiction unit by reviewing main idea. We read an article together about the marine otter and identified the main idea of each section. Students also took their STAR reading assessment.
In math this week we finished our geometry unit with our final assessment. Students also took their STAR math test.
A Peek Into Next Week
Writing: Next week the students will write their memoir stories, making sure to connect them using the common theme they chose this week.
Reading: We will continue with main idea and begin using it to summarize nonfiction texts.
Math: In math next week, we will begin our final math unit on graphing and the coordinate plane!
World Wildlife Fund
Student council will continue to collect money for the World Wildlife Fund. Fifth grade is trying to collect money to virtually adopt a koala. All donations will be sent to WWF to help the endangered koala.
