Online Course Offerings
Registration Information
Participants may register and complete online courses at any time. Each course is designed for participants to work at their own pace.
Act 48 Hours: 7 Hours per online course; 10 hours per Book Study
Cost: There is no cost for participants located in CIU 20's region or member districts. For any outside CIU 20's region, there is a $30 fee.

Assistive Technology
Through this learning path, participants will have a more definitive understanding of what assistive technology is. During this learning path, you will examine the process for determining AT for individuals. Participants will explore various AT resources that they can use to access information as well as resources to utilize in their classroom.
Educating Students with Complex Instructional Needs
During this learning path, participants will examine the multitude of factors that impact students with complex instructional needs. Participants will specifically focus on environment factors and what they can do to eliminate barriers for students.
Increasing Student Engagement
This learning path explores ways to enhance and increase student engagement. Participants will discover sources and activities that range from theory, research, and practice in order to present a full picture of engagement, and allow you to challenge, refine, expand, and/or strengthen your current understanding of the topic.
Integrating Online Technology Tools Into Classroom Instruction
Participants will learn the various teaching tools available to educators and how to integrate them into the classroom to create student centered learning environments. These tools also support student collaboration, communication and problem solving, and many more 21st Century skills which help today's learners be successful in tomorrow's world!
Making Content Accessible to English Language Learners
Participation in this learning path will assist educators in analyzing how English Language Learners (ELLs) learn a second language and the factors that can contribute to difficulty in learning the target language, apply concepts pertaining to assessment of ELLs, and examine instructional strategies for support in language and content.
Making Words Stick: How to Make Your Vocabulary Instruction More Effective
It is know that increasing student's vocabulary is essential in all subject areas, but how do we make that vocabulary "stick" and become part of the learning process? This learning path explores the strategies for educators about how to make vocabulary instruction more effective.
Peer Observation
Participants of this learning path will learn about the benefits of observing/being observed by your peers. Rooted in the Danielson Framework, participants will examine their own growth and collaborate with others to enhance their teaching practice.
Special Education Law: IDEA Refresher
As educational professionals, it is imperative that we are familiar with the law and how it impacts our daily practices. This learning path will encompass a blend of videos, articles, lessons and more, to make you reacquainted with the law that protects our students with disabilities!
Teacher Effectivness - Danielson Framework
The Danielson Framework is the foundation for professional conversations among practitioners as they strive to enhance their skills int he complex task of teaching. The four domains you will develop an understanding of are:
- Planning and Preparation.
- Classroom Environment.
- Instruction.
- Professional Responsibilities.
Transition to the PA Core Standards - ELA and/or Math
These two learning paths provide a solid understanding of the PA Core Standards for ELA and Math and how they can be used to support you in your practice. Rigor and Depth of Knowledge will be explored to assist your understanding of how to utilize the standards while developing your classroom lessons.
Universal Design for Learning
Participants will learn how to apply effective learning to the universal design movement. The intent of universal design is to simply life for everyone making products, communications, and building environments more usable for as many people as possible.
