Location and Geography

Latvia is located in north Eastern Europe, bordered by Estonia to its north, Lithuania to its south Belarus to it's south, and Russia to its east. About 98% of Latvia is a little under 656 ft elevation. It has over 12,000 rivers and over 3,000 small lakes.

History of their Flag

The Latvian flag was adopted on February 27, 1990. Their flag has two maroon horizontal stripes and a white horizontal stripe in the middle. The white stripe stands for truth and honor of free citizens and trustworthiness. The red stripes on the flag stand for the reminder of the blood from wars in the past.

Capital and Major Cities

The capital of Latvia is Riga. Some major cities are Ventspills, Kraslava, Madona, Cēsis, and Jelgava

Tourism

Some places to visit in Latvia are; the Gauja National Park for its exquisite beauty, the Freedom Monument to honor soldiers during Latvia War of Independence, and the Latvia Ethnographic open air Museum just outside the capital.

History, Government, Currency

Latvia was once a part of the Soviet Union and Russia. It gained its independence on November 18th, 1918. Latvia joined the European Union on May 1st, 2004 and they were not founders. Latvia has a Parlimentary Governmemt and their currency type is Euro. But, prior to Euro they used Lats.
