Carruth House
Whangarei Boys' High School - November 2015
From the Director of Boarding - Ian Rowe
Our big event since our last newsletter was the Formal Dinner. With a rousing haka to all staff from the boys, speeches and toasts from senior students, and a whole host of trophies to present, it was another wonderful evening - with one of the most anticipated events of the evening being the announcement of Carruth Prefects for next year. We were delighted that the Deputy Mayor of Whangarei, Sharon Morgan (whose late husband, Joe, was an Old Boy, and Old Carruthian) was able to attend in place of the Mayor, who was engaged at another event in the city.
Another event which is certainly worth mentioning is the annual rugby fixture between the boarders and the day boys - a game that is highly anticipated and which has a similar build up to the Rugby World Cup final. This year we saw another excellent game, with it going right down to the wire. I am happy to announce that we retained the trophy with a 19-17 win! Well done team!
While our 2016 hostel numbers are looking very positive, we are still very busy interviewing for next year. If you know of anybody keen to attend Carruth next year, please tell them to get in touch with me as soon as possible.
